Noticed this non-standard addition directly above the P&S trim tabs on an Ocean 43 (not mine). It's about 2 1/2 " wide, attached to the vertical transom directly above each tab. Suspect it was added by an owner and not a factory install. Anyone got an idea what it is / what it does? A forum member here may recognize it as theirs.
Odd design top to bottom. My guess is that the wood piece is to protect the tab and actuator. Can you tell the purpose of the boat, as in are they likely to stern in to a pier? (Crew boats and such will often stern in to load passengers and cargo).
It's an Ocean 43' sportfish. my guess is to keep fishing lines off of the tabs. With some owners it only takes losing fish to 1 thing for them to take drastic measures. LOL.
I'd say that's spot on. I've seen some really fancy stainless work, around outboards and trim tabs, for the same purpose.
Most Oceans I've seen have them. Mine included. I've always assumed it keeps a fishing line from catching on the trim tab.
I have them on my 43'. I never really knew the purpose but it does keep people from stepping on my trim tab as they're climbing out of the water.
I just took mine off today..teak wood underneath that paint...4 wood screws on each one holding it in place
How stupid am I? When I first looked at those photos I didn't realize that the tabs stuck out that far. I thought that metal was part of the appendage.
