I know it started in 1998 . I think it was cured by 2002. Maybe it was 2000? I'm getting old. Post identified, I believe it was 36/37 boats that had the issue. Fixed some, but not all before bankruptcy. The vessels not repaired by the Post or the boat owners themselves at another yard are quite apparent.
As Beau mentioned, it is very obvious if a boat came from the bad gelcoat lot when you see it. I have seen them and you can notice It from a distance. Also it should be noted that not all boats from that time period have bad gelcoat as I have owned a 2000 and a 2001 both with good gelcoat.
Post began purchasing and using CCP's 953 series gelcoat in 1997. Post built 81 boats using the 953 Series gel coat, and claims that in 2002 it began seeing massive cracking in 32 boats that were built between 1998 and 2002 and used in winter climates.
Would you happen to know if there's a list of hull numbers for the affected boats? I've searched the court documents from the lawsuit but don't see anything. Thanks
I just purchased a 2003 55' Viking SportFish Convertible and IT WAS ONE OF THE AFFECTED ONES! Unfortunately the original owners never looked into it or maybe it started happening after... Who knows! But I do have spiders EVERYWHERE...
Hull #90 of the 50's was the last to use the CCP 953. They switched to Interplastic after that with no further issues.
