A friend of mine took some Pictures of my 1970 53MY on plane earlier today. First time I see what she looks like on plane since the repower.

I'm afraid we have different ideas of what "on plane" means. "... lift increases, and the boat, in effect, rides over its bow wave, reducing wetted area and thus reducing drag. At this point, the boat is said to be "on a plane". I love these old girls, but I'd be hard pressed to say Valhalla ever got on plane and her bow rose higher than yours.

THAT'S your question? ;) "Don't tread on me" is a great (if overused) expression, but the color of flags have meaning on boats.

Maritime flag communicating presence or absence of disease on-board
    [IMG]
Signal flag "Quebec, " called the "Yellow Jack", is a simple yellow flag that was historically used to signal quarantine (it stands for Q), but in modern use indicates the opposite, as a signal of a ship free of disease that requests boarding and inspection.
In International maritime signal flags, plain yellow, green, and even black flags have been used to symbolize disease in both ships and ports, with the color yellow having a longer historical precedent, as a color of marking for houses of infection, previous to its use as a maritime marking color for disease.

It is sometimes called the "yellow jack", which became a name for yellow fever. Cholera ships also used a yellow flag.[1]

The plain yellow flag ("Quebec" or Q in international maritime signal flags), perhaps derives its letter symbol for its initial use in quarantine, but this flag in modern times indicates the opposite—a ship that declares itself free of quarantinable disease, and requests boarding and inspection by Port State Control to allow the grant of "free pratique".[2]

Plain yellow flags are still commonly used to mark a recent death in a neighborhood in cities such as Jakarta, regardless of the cause. They are placed in intersections leading to the home of the recently deceased as direction markers for mourners, and to mark the funeral convoy so that it is given the right of way.[3]

You said it. Bow rose higher. Means the stern is still down digging a hole. Typical of many older Heavy boats. Between the weight reduction due to the repower and the larger trim tabs generating more lift the boat now actually gets on plane.

Have to Google it, not that old.:D

As for the Q flag, know what that is of course, but saw some kind of symbol and pretty sure it did not say Vote for Biden and Harris.

Isn’t that a blue Biden flag? The real intent of the post, I suspect. ;-)

Nice attitude, for the type and weight of boat.
What sort of speed was she making in those pics, high teens to low 20s, I guess? And which sort of fuel burn?

Re. flags, it's actually the lower one on port side that makes me curious.
Can't understand what it is, from those photos.

Boat looks good running. You know, if you put outriggers on her, you can fly a lot more flags.....including an upside down Biden flag, signifying a release.......LOLOLOLOLOL

Was doing 17 kts at cruise (2300 out of 2600) . WOT is 20kts. And that’s with stabilizers which probably cost 1/2 to 3/4 kt

It may seem slow by today’s standards but originally top speed was 14 kts ... most of the time we run at hull speed anyway.

    Good looking girl underway Pascal!

What tender do you have on the aft bridge deck? I thought you guys were carrying the little sail boat... mast removed or did you opt for power?

Makes sense. Heavy boats are great for cruising at displacement speed, and even more so if stabilized.
Besides, I guess that doubling the speed is bound to cost 4 times or so in fuel, i.e. still twice also in terms of mpg.
I mean, assuming around 10 gph at 8.5kts, the ballpark at 17kts is probably 40 if not more, or am I wrong?
