Hey all! I'm looking for a dinette table for my 40 open - not sure where you all go for 'spare' or replacement parts.... Also, can someone tell me of the table is permanently fixed to the deck
When you say "dinette table" are you talking about a cockpit table or a galley table (which may or may not be attached to a wall)? If a cockpit or drop down galley table (converting the dinette to a sleeper), they're generally on a post that slides into a socket in the floor and then a socket on the underside of the table fits the other end of the post. These are available through West Marine or a number of other suppliers. One caution with these type tables is to always coat the sockets with jelly as they tend to jam. I've seen a few people whack themselves in the face with the post when they finally pull free. With these socket and post type tables you can have almost any table top you want.
in many pictures I see of the 40 open, there is a table, in the galley, port side, where you can sit and eat. As I'm new to the boat, I'm not really sure what 'was' there or what 'should be' there. Does that make sense?
If you're looking for something like what's shown in this listing it looks semi-custom. https://www.**************/boats/2003/luhrs-40-open-3664447/ But it's similar to what you'll find at W.M. In the pics from this listing it appears to be removable, but the hatch (or floor) it sits on may not have enough structure to hold a socket. So they've added a wood base which is screwed or glued to the panel (floor). This appears to have a male socket on the floor but otherwise it's the same situation. If you look at WM's page https://www.westmarine.com/search?No=30&Nrpp=30&Ntt=tables you'll find poles and sockets. You can put on any table top that you like. It's an easy DIY project.
They are not permanently fixed, and The table folds in on one end. I actually have mine out right now to make more space for the little guy to sleep in his pack n play on the floor. Let me know if you would like me to send a pic of it.
That sounds like the table I showed him in post #4. Can you tell him if the base is secured to the floor and can the post be taken off for storage. I've seen them both ways. On bigger boats a fixed table that can be moved out of the way is fine, but on a smaller boat it's better if you can brake them down for storage.
