ive been looking for awhile for this boat. Finally 1 had come up with the CAT C32 ACERTS... 1800hp. They have a total of 2600 hrs. They were rebuilt and now have 700 hrs on the rebuilds. Some people say stay away others say as long as they were rebuilt there should be no issues. Anyone have these engines? Any opinions. I'm coming from a 2003 Viking 52C with MAN 1300's that ive been running for 4 years. Just sold/closed it yesterday. Thanks, Frank

Engines requiring to be rebuilt at less than 2000 hours makes it hard to argue with anyone suggesting to stay away...

The 1800 HP Cat's are very solid motors. Chances are yours had aftercooler issues or weren't winterized properly or some other fluke/issue. I ran a 2006 61' with 1650hp CATS and it cruised at 34 knots and was a good running boat, yours should cruise 36 knots. With 700 hours on the rebuilds, I'd trust them explicitly...... BTW.....for anyone asking, the ONLY difference between the 1600HP Cats to the 1900hp CAT C32's is the computer programming, the engine itself is the same exact engine with nothing changed. The 61' is a good running boat........

I didn't say that the C32 aren't solid, but pretty sure if there's one thing that Cat didn't improve in them vs. the good old 3412, that's reliability.

61' Viking with C32's - I don't think you can really find a much better package in that size and price range. You would spend way more to get a marginally better package IMHO. Even then, you would really only improve on custom touches and many of those boats will still have the C32's.

Actually the majority of 61's had 16v2000's due to the era they were built. The later ones were the only ones with C32's....and still split probably half/half.

How did the survey go? Have been looking at some with the same engine and have been concerned with the early rebuilds too.

Just got to tampa airport after spending the day on the boat. Great day!! Nothing major... engines ran solid! Needs some prop work and a rudder rod seal, otherwise small things and some cosmetics..

the engine issue was one actually caused by CAT... the owner wanted to get a platinum warranty which requires a partial breakdown , the tech left a rag somewhere in the internals and the engine had some "issues" the next day.... CAT rebuilt both engines.

Wow that's an expensive mistake. Thanks for the update.
