What product to replace Mildewed silicone on hardtop

    I’ve noticed that the silicone on the hardtop of my V72 Princess has become dirty with significant mildew. I’ve been looking at what to use to replace it. Im thinking about using the 3M 4000UV. It’s listed as a medium strength removable adhesive and has good UV resistance. Would this be appropriate to use instead of a pure silicone type product? Thanks

    Yes, but it only seems to last three years or so, then breaks down , cracks and becomes chalky.
    Sika-flex products seem to do a better job. Or 3M 5200.

    I agree with clean slate. I don’t like he 4000 where it is visible and exposed to UV.

    Just wipe the silicone with solvent and clean it.

    Worth a try. What’s the best solvent to try? Mineral spirits?

    Acetone is pretty strong stuff. Would it not be better to try bleach first?

    Bleach turns caulk yellow. Acetone, just do a quick wipe and it takes it right off.
