    Marquis 50 LS

We just purchased a 2008 50LS. Had to hire a delivery crew to bring her from Tennessee Lakes to Houston, TX due to our schedules. We have used it very little since taking delivery in September but are impressed with a lot of features on the vessel. She's heavy for a 50 footer and handles well with the Volvo D12 715 horsepower engines. The boat runs very nose high even at 21 knots so I find that I use almost full nose down trim tabs. And they are aftermarket larger tabs than OEM issues. We have had some issues reflecting shoddy workmanship at the factory. Maybe it had to do with the failing economy or Carver's impending bankruptcy but there are a few things that we never saw on our Sea Ray such as staples in the cockpit bench seat that were not stainless. Rusted terribly and ruined the cushions. The helm chairs are, quite frankly, junk for a million dollar boat. The bridge carpet was substandard and had to be replaced because the backing was shedding all over the place. Our Sea Ray, once again, was far superior here. I had both helm chairs redone completely with much more foam of varying density and they are pretty decent now. We have had some electrical issues with portside battery charging and traced it to a loose connection in a battery switch or relay that was under a floor in the engine room and appears that it came from the factory that way. Three turns with a 7/16 wrench to tighten it took care of the problem. The freshwater holding tank indicator is stuck on full. There is some wood damage inside the boat due to drying out I believe but the previous owner may have placed a heater or a lamp there during the winter. I'm not sure. I am also surprised that a boat of this size would use all of the individual airconditioning units (5 total) rather than a split system. However, they are not noisy and seem to do a good job. There is bridge ac with its separate cooling pump/motor. Overall the boat is finished very nicely and the gelcoat seems to be better than many Carvers I've seen. The interior is very well done and ours is the 2 stateroom model so the master is amidships and full beam. Other than these trivial complaints we love the boat so far. It is a great entertainer with a wonderful bridge, lots of room in the saloon, and a boat that a couple could spend a long time aboard. If you have any specific questions, I would love to address them.

    Best of Luck,
    LaraLee

Is there anybody out there with a 50LS or a 520LS willing to talk about it some. We just bought an '08 50LS and are learning a lot about it. Volvo D-12's, FLIR, TracVision, Hydraulic platform, etc.

We are looking to buy a new boat. My wife and I like the styling of the Marquis and read your post. Now that you have had time to enjoy your 50 ls what is your opinion of her? The 50 would be the smallest we are considering, the 59 is the largest. I have never bought a used boat, all 8 of mine have been custom ordered from the factory. A hurricane took out the boat we got married on, we cannot stand it any more so a new one is in our very near future. Would we have a safe bet on a used Marquis like yours or should we steer away and focus on another brand with similar ?

Thank you in advance for your response

The boat went through survey with minor issues as to be expected with a 13 year old boat. We are closing this week and I plan on taking delivery on Thursday. I’ll keep you all posted. We live in Fort Lauderdale and are taking it to ocean reef in key largo this coming Sunday. Will post after the trip.
