Really nice! Would look great on your dock! This is one of those cases where the black hull looks nice, with the varnished cabin top/ superstructure.
It would look great on the dock next to mine, not MY DOCK. I'd love admiring it, even smiling, and striking a conversation with the crew member that is always outside varnishing it, or applying awlcare to the hull.....
I'm one of those perverts who loves varnishing on a cool morning, even kept the varnish next to the milk in the fridge. The yards and yards of wood I did as a lad, still alive today.
Spectacular boat, but I would like to see something more creative than the double Stidds at the outside helm, or a better way of concealing them. The ones in the pilothouse look right, but the exterior ones look a bit clunky and pedestrian. I would also like to see some material variation on the seating surfaces, rather than acres of blue leather. I also think crew is going to be necessary on this boat to keep up with the fingerprints on the wood, salt on the dark hull etc… Best, Maldwin
I am in that club as well. I particularly like the parts I can bring home during the winter and put a few coats on in the shop. I like the smell of varnish ( maybe a little too much ?) and the results. In the winter it gives me an opportunity to be on the boat in my mind !! My neighbor's flagstaff is raw wood and I halfway want to pinch it, varnish it & return it, THAT is sick....
HELLO MODS........I don't think I would classify this as a "Lobster, picnic or Downeast Day boat". 70 feet, 6 mil plus, 2500 mile range at 18 knots, and beyond luxurious accommodations for more than 6? You may want to (re) watch the vids.
Oscar, The threads were merged without consideration of forum location. It should probably be located in a forum for commuter yachts, but we don't have enough content to warrant opening same. In the interim, I'll move the thread to the Antique, Classic & Custom boat forum. Or maybe a new forum titled; awkward flashback blunders ('cause I really don't get this yacht?)
Well, its design brief was to travel in luxury non stop, with speed, between the UK and the Baltic. A rather serious piece of water and not "commuter" turf. But taste is personal.
at any Barrett-Jackson or Mecum auto auction you will see Retro-Mods for sale, older classic body styles with modern power plants and suspensions along with other newer bells & whistles, they all bring top dollar. Nice to see more yacht builders following that approach and appealing to a niche market with their classic lines and modern yachting conveniences Scott
