A BIG +1 here. You know, Seasmaster, for a skimmer you're alright.

I guess I'm not following your logic with the EBL, so please don't take this the wrong way - but on a deep sea vessel, we don't care if the yachty has us on an Electronic Bearing Line, or a visual bearing line, or a radar bearing line. Somebody else's EBL just doesn't do any good to us. We just need the yachty to comply with rule 9 and stay out of the way. . .

And keep the chit-chat to a minimum. Just tell us what your intentions are (if we asked); 1) pass ahead, 2) pass astern. Be succinct and crisp with the dialogue. That's all.

Well, my friend, read the thread: It wasn't about vector plotting. . . And we will engage if asked, however we will opine freely amongst ourselves - we [mostly] know each other, either personally or by this forum.

As a neub, it's on you to figure it out. . .

But here's a piece of advice: If you want to talk about vector plots, OPEN UP A THREAD, if there isn't one already. Don't complain about wanting to discuss vectors IN A "NON-VECTOR" thread.

From the boat owner/operators I've encountered I have to assume that any ship encountering one crossing a shipping channel would appreciate knowing that the boat operator is really paying attention, and will in fact be staying out of the way, not guessing they will. I'd rather give too much info than too little for their response may be 'You might want to check that. I've got a long tow behind'.

Sorry about that JaxCap, this can be a tough neighborhood, but a lot of wisdom here. Even if they misspell “noob”. :-D

Something about this comment rubs me the wrong way. I like this forum and there are a few on here that I appreciate the knowledge they share. ie CaptJ and PacBlue to name the first two that come to mind. Even olderboater gives me a completely different viewpoint of the industry being in the true yacht category of ownership. I sure hope they don't view their contributions here as some sort of favor but rather an opportunity to share and also learn from others as well. I like that this forum has a mix of owners, captains, and industry professionals contributing.
