    Congratulations Josh. Majesty yachts are good value for money but in order to receive a well built yacht you must inspect and survey the build in all stages to ensure the build complies with all industry standards.

    My level of experience as a yacht owner is a big zero compared to most of the posters in this thread. However, I've lived and operated my business for many years in Dubai and have been on a couple of Majesty yachts (as you can imagine there are ton of them in Dubai) So I got to meet with a couple of owners.

    Take T.K.'s advice from the build to the delivery, really, do it...and sorry to put the following text in caps, but, DO NOT TAKE A LOCAL SURVEYOR!

    Since anyway you will need to get a law firm to review all contracts, tell them to be overly zealous wherever they can...then, again sorry to put this in caps, but, USE A LOCAL LAW FIRM (an international one that has a local presence and understand the UAE laws extremely well)

    The investment of knowledgeable eyes and ears on the construction process throughout, coupled with a significant photo journal, is money very well spent given the context of the investment. The lawyer involvement? Absolutely...

    Whoa, lots of replys. So they are V12-1900s. They never offered me the option of doing cat 32s but I would have preferred them. But that being said I was a shirt that they were good engines. With inspecting everything along the way they are sending me photo updates and constant emails. I was invited when the pendant make is over to go visit the shipyard, but I don't know if I will actually go and visit. But I want the surveys. I've gotten my yacht management team notified as well (Fraser) so I thought that was important. I spent a little over budget, but I felt it was worth it. I think I learned lessons from both Azimut and Horizon that were needed. My marina also offers services but I'm unsure if I should also get them involved.

    But, circling back to the engines, there seems to be a divided opinion. I'm just hoping I didn't get suckered on them.

    Well, I'm one of the few probably who given the choice between CAT and MAN would always choose MAN. However, even if many have a personal preference the other way, MAN builds fine engines, and your engine choice is the one issue I would not worry about.

    I notice the older people are, longer in the industry, the more likely to criticize MAN's and prefer CAT's. I think some are basing judgements on older engines. I've heard some criticizing and they were basing it even on engines before Common Rail.

    As to actual MAN personal experience, we have managed and maintained 5 boats with MAN's between 2012 and today and the performance and reliability as well as the the service and costs have not disappointed us in any way.

    One of the reasons I follow forums - not just YF - is because the opinions and guidance put forward is often self-policing in nature. Knowledgeable enthusiasts hold each other accountable. When you have members who have made hundreds (or thousands) of posts, there's no way moderators would let them continue if they spewed BS. Trust collective knowledge!

    You have some sound advice in this thread. Cover your @$$!

    FIAT and VOLVO make great anchors. Worst engines I've ever used.
    Not crazy about MAN, CAT or DEUTZ but they get the job done. Parts are pricey.

    I had Volvo engines in my azimut and I absolutely hated them. they were constant sources of enjoyment and constant needing to be filled with in order to get them just right. So there was always a great disparity between running the Volvo's and running the caterpillars. That being said my neighbor in the Marina has MTU v12 and he doesn't seem to have any major complaints. so if he can get them running pretty smoothly I'm fairly confident I can as well. I'm in talks with an engineer about all that and he seems really confident about it so it looks like it's going to work out to my advantage.
