I'm sure this will turn political and need to be locked soon, but thought it important for those traveling north to be aware that NY, NJ and Ct. have just imposed mandatory 14 day self-quarantine restrictions on anyone coming from the states where the Corona Virus is now surging, Florida probably being most relevant to those here.

Not a surprise that Florida is surging. I don't see many people abiding by distancing guidelines. Restaurants are busy. Outdoor bars are too. Nobody is wearing masks. Starting today, masks are required in Palm Beach County. I just returned from a car dealer in North County. Nobody in the dealership was wearing a mask. Apparently rules are considered a loose guideline that is subject to personal interpretation.

NY, once the epicenter of the virus is the U.S., now leads the nation in the reduction of deaths and new cases. Only 2 things changed that. 1) wearing of masks, 2) social distancing was taken seriously. There is not, and won't be for a good time, a vaccine or cure. More than 121,000 Americans have died from the virus in only the past 3 months. More than a million have been infected. It is now infecting all ages. If you're hospitalized for the virus you can count on spending up to 6 weeks with a tube stuffed down your throat, not seeing your family and being surrounded by strangers in 'space suits'. Maybe you'll lose limbs. Maybe you'll be left with chronic illnesses. Maybe you'll be dead or maybe you'll pass the disease on to you family. Pretend life is back to normal at your own peril.

I always wear a mask in public, not only to protect myself, but to protect others. I find myself wanting to say something to those who are not as considerate, but I can't think of anything that would change the ways of the invincible.

    What would you say?

What would you say to anyone who threatened your life or tried to assault you in any other way? I was in the checkout line at Lowe's the other day when a couple stood right behind me. My first inclination was to slice them, but I opted for stepping in front of my cart thereby forcing them to distance instead. I couldn't have been more obvious. Everybody around us noticed and they were ridiculed.

In Maryland we must wear masks inside stores, offices etc. I wear a mask when anyone comes in my office. Everyone seems to be compliant here. I have been limiting grocery shopping to "senior hours" at our local Harris Teeter Monday and Thursday 6 to 8 AM. Few customers at that hour, other gray hairs, and shelves are freshly stocked. I'm fortunate in that I live Talbot County where we have had a total of 106 cases and as of now there are 5 or 6 active. I try not to allow that to give me a false sense of security. Restaurants are open with limited seating but I still have not gone in any.

For those who feel invulnerable or too young to need be concerned, Florida's youngest (fatal) victim is now a 17 y.o. with no travel history who died today. Before that it was a 22 y.o. woman in Palm Beach. (In NY we've had infants and toddlers killed by the virus.) Anyone who doesn't take this as serious as life and death is a fool, and I won't put up with fools who threaten me.

How many hospitals are there in Florida? In NY we have thousands, and until just recently they were all closed to all illnesses except Covid19. Florida, Texas, Arizona and at least 22 other states are on the verge of being there. Think about having a heart attack, cancer or some other illness that can kill you and being told 'Come back after a Covid19 cure is found'.

In more extended press releases it's revealed that these governors want those quarantines to take place within nursing homes.

Super Mario, whatever happened to your bragging about how "open and welcoming" your state was back when you were gladly receiving Europeans and watching your residents flee south TO Florida?

New York and Florida have approximately the same number of hospital beds. Both roughly 60,000. Additionally Florida has a large quantity of urgent care centers and private facilities that don't register in the CDC database.

I started quarantine about 3 weeks before the nation went into hibernation. Days before, I had dinner with a friend who had just returned from a whirlwind tour of the Pacific Asian rim. Because we didn't know the length of the incubation period, or how the symptoms would manifest, we both called it quits on life as usual. Glad to say neither of us contracted. This bring me to a change of subject...

I've worked from home for 18 years, so when the lock down was announced I thought it would be a walk in the park. Isolation doesn't bother me. I've had lots of practice! It's been 4 months and I'm honestly getting cabin fever. What are you guys doing to break up the monotony of too much time at home?

My comment would be that "you are bully and a danger to all us harmless old folks! If you threatened my life like that with a gun or knife you'd be a criminal. Please be sure to proudly tell your children/grandchildren how you helped save my life in the pandemic of the century"

Relieved we made it from FL to RI already. Will not be surprised if RI re-institutes 14 day quarantine for inbound folks from high-infection areas. People in RI seem to wear masks far more than in FL .

We've been hitting the supermarkets and Costco about once every 6 weeks for supplies, drives to nowhere, taking to-go foods to the bay beaches and eating in the car. In this area we now have a bunch of Drive-In movie theaters opening in beach and park parking lots (mandatory stay in the car), even businesses and towns are opening them with (masked) car-hops. Lots of people and families have been walking around the neighborhood. No need to wear a mask, but we carry them in case we stop to speak with anyone (from at least 6' away). Then there's our new appreciation for our families and spouses. As boring and inconvenient as it may be it's a lot more enjoyable than having a tube stuffed down your throat and dying. Normal doctor visits are mostly done by video conference now. My house has never been so clean nor my yard better groomed. Really this whole thing is nothing more than an inconvenience (if we don't get sick). My parents dealt with rationing during WWII and wondering if the Navy chaplain would come to the door today, and having absolutely nothing during the Great Depression. Today's people can't handle not being able to sit in a restaurant or hang out at a bar. PLEASE !!! Within my lifetime most families didn't even have TV to entertain them, yet they managed.

Ha, same thing, I cleaned my garage several times and detailed the boat to such an extent I move it off the dock when the lawn guys do their mowing,
either go for a ride, or use a neighbors empty dock. (Captain Ken Bracewell knows when my lawn is being serviced, that is when I go by his boat and wave.)
We take this virus seriously, no shopping, no bars/restaurant, masks when outside.
Getting cabin fever, had to get away, now on an overnight trip on the happy ship M/V Odin.

Well, glad to see South Florida reinstating rules. From the day we've reopened our stores, it's been firm requirement of masks and we have not allowed anyone in without one. We are also firm on distancing. We've only had to have the cops involved one time.

I'm reminded of Walmart which has attempted to serve the grocery needs of the country. Quite a few Walmart employees have died from Covid 19 and huge numbers have gotten sick.

We manufactured N95's and hospital gowns during down time but every employee wore masks and gowns themselves.

I hope tourists returning to the Bahamas after July 1 comply without problems. The Bahamian government and businesses are serious about requiring compliance. The Bahamas have had 11 deaths from Covid 19. Florida's death rate is 5 times theirs. The US is over 10 times theirs.

I live in a boat. I work on a boat. My commute is 20’. Not minutes. Feet. Across the pier :). We ve been going out as usual both on our own Hatt, on the office or on our sailboat.

for groceries, no change we ve been using instacart for years. all delivered at the pier gate usually within a couple of hours. I never understood why people went waiting in line at Walmart and the likes. For supplies like parts etc couple of taps on amazon or West Marine Pro.

Of the hundreds of people we know or that we have talked to since March, not one has been sick with the China-19 virus.

yes some groups are at higher risk. The current hysteria about high infection rate in Florida is primarily because of increased testing... there are lines of cars two mile long every day at a number of locations am here in Miami. There are also many clinics doing testing. And anyone thinking the thousands of protesters and looters that have been plaguing the streets of this country have nothing to do with an increase in cases is just plain delusional

the inconvenient truth about China-19 is that the fatality and hospitalization rates are dropping. The latest studies show an average of 0.5 % fatality rate. Many scientists and doctors are reporting the virus is loosing its punch. No surprise there, it was made in China. :)

here is an eye opener... from NPR no less

Don't really see people going into stores and then making a scene because someone is not wearing a mask. If you are that concerned, stay home. Most, maybe all, stores in our area offer curbside pickup, even the liquor store, and many will deliver. No reason to go into Lowe's and make a scene, order on line and they will bring it to you car.

Good link, can’t be no Right Twist on an NPR article.
I may be one of the 45% who is infected with no symptoms: One of the Labs sent an offer for Antibody testing for $119. Price is no problem, but no mention of failure rate or false positive/negative: It was high 3-4 weeks ago, less than 90% and I will bite.
Wife came home from a girls vacation in New Mexico and Arizona mid February sick as a dog, cough, fever, etc., then got slowly better the next 2 weeks. If she had it, I got it, but I also had a BCG vaccine as a kid, some research suggest the BCG may boost the immune system enough to stay healthy when faced with a Corona situation. Hope so, but need to find a reliable antibody testing so I can go to town dancing every day again.

NY, NJ and CT are now requiring those coming for a COVID-19 hot spot to undergo a 14 DAY QUARANTINE. Be advised if you are planning to bring a boat to or move one through the area or travel to this area from one of the hot spot areas. END OF REPORT. Time to lock the thread Carl.
