    Come on, NO !!!

Mirabella is trully beautiful, sleek lines and shallow air drag, this is a piece of art, compared to this ugly "big piece of floating wood" thing...

Mirabella V is a brilliant and a cool sailyacht (probably the coolest one). Athena is an instantaneous classic

    Carl,

    Congratulations.
A great article. The best I have ever seen.

In my opinion Athena is a unique masterpiece.
I prefer not to try any comparisons or classifications.
The same way I don't like to make comparisons between Renoir and Michelangelo.
I appreciate Athena for what she shows and the feeling she causes, without diluting her qualities in standard classes.
She presents a very unique charmy atmosfere and thats what attracts me.

Thanks for the opportunity to see this great boat in more details and for a very fine article, that also involves creative art and a dedicated and inspired artist.

Well said Antonio, maybe this can put to sleep the restlessness of some members, and we can all accept our own opinions without slamming seven bells out of each other on this forum!

Whether or not she is liked in everyones opinion, there is no denying what she has contributed to the yachting world and the amount of press cover she has gained.. after all we are talking about her now!

Someone once said - "any publicity is good publicty" This is so true! ;)

Thank you Antonio! Glad to hear someone reads my ramblings. :)

Athena is a truly an inspirational yacht. Words can hardly do her justice. There were so many intricate details and engineering hurdles to be overcome, that it's hard to fully comprehend the magnitude of this build. For example...

Athena's sails are not set by hand. Her winches are hydraulic. If each winch was independent, it would have consumed a large amount of space, therefore her hydraulic power was centralized and routed to some 40+ winches controlling over 70 functions. This doesn't include the 9 hydraulic motors used to unroll the sails, nor does it include hydraulic motors and controls for davits, cranes and bow/stern thrusters. These hydraulics require alot of energy. Because they play a critical role in controlling Athena, she has three dedicated diesel generaters, of which one is always running.

Implemenatiing hydraulics on a scale of this level is not without it's share of logistical nightmares. We, as readers... may never know what the engineers at Royal Huisman (and their sub-contractors) must have endured to bring Athena to life. There are a multitude of other factors that each and every builder must contend with as well, whether it is a difficult buyer or a slow supplier. Ultimately, we are fortunate to enjoy the end result.

It makes no difference whether you like her style or design. What matters the most (to me) is the level of technology, the craftsmenship, and the diversity Athena represents. Athena is a historic build. Although she has been featured by many magazines, the bandwidth of the internet allows us to give her more of the coverage she deserves. I can only hope our review was worthy.

For a long time I do not read or hear anything about the Project Eos. She seems to be build at Lurssen, and will be a more or less similar yacht to Athena. By the way : At Rondal, Huismans' daughter company, her three masts are under construction. So : anybody know more about her ???

"Athena" recently re-emerged from her Winter refit at Royal Huisman. She retains similar topside hull colour as before but the underwater hull has been resprayed in black rather than the red we were accustomed to. She had a 15 year survey done for Lloyds where the engines and gensets were fully overhauled. The rigging also got serviced.

A nice modernization of this classic. I know the owner has her for sale so this could be to help push sales through. I wonder if the interior was redone?

No, she is made ready for her new owner, from what the drums are telling.
