Any bets on if this one actually gets out of Seaway before winter?

Well it's a relatively warm autumn here. First frost was Nov 1st... the annual average is Oct 19th, so things aren't likely to freeze up anytime "soon".

I'm pretty sure it wasn't initially weather that had the previous ships "trapped" in Montreal. If I recall, didn't they do something dumb ?

The Little Rock was commissioned in Buffalo NY in the middle of December, and subsequently got stuck in Montreal two weeks later. Do you consider making the trip in the absolute dead of winter "something dumb"...?

Or it was delays in building, commissioning and delivery, so the dates just didn’t line up?

    Thanks Roger,

Not exactly as I remember it from our transit during the overnight hours. But as Captain Don said "truely an engineering marvel" Thanks again.

I literally just emailed a client today and told them that it shouldn't be a problem bringing their new 62' up from Ft. Lauderdale as soon as the Erie Canal opens. Hopefully it will only last a few weeks and won't be an issue come mid-May. Funny because the line handlers are generally more than 10 feet away from you when you get to the top of the lock chamber anyway.

Hope you're right but your optimism isn't necessarily shared by all. I would expect to see a delay on the opening of the Erie.

With a 62 they may be 10' away, but not necessarily on smaller vessels. Leaves me to wonder if there will be any Loopers this year. Also leaves me to wonder about the Erie Canal and the locks down in Great Bridge, Va. and on the western rivers. These would be corks in the bottle for a lot of spring migration.

Captaintilt as you no the Seaway use the Hands Free mooring machines, and there are still a few commercial ships and tugs that do not work on the machines and Seaway advised them that any vessels that require handlines may be delayed to.

Thanks for the heads up Rodger! I guess when it does open up and if "social distancing" is still in effect, I'll have to have a mask for you as I will need to have you onboard to be my "third person" onboard for the upbound transit.

That message was before the morning coffee, I am not liable for what was said** I picked up that Princess V50 off the ship about two weeks before you took that photo. It went to Sugarloaf while we flew down to FLIBS and then made it’s trip to Toronto for TIBS 2020 where it was sold! It headed south on truck for the winter and will be returning once Corona clears up!
