    Hi All,

Looking at a 2011 40’ Atlantis. Volvo Penta D6 370. Appears to be in solid shape and no major issues. Coming from a 37 Sea Ray so this is a little different.

Any objective opinions on the Volvos? Searching the inter webs doesn’t produce much historical information on the 2011 Atlantis so any factual information would be greatly apporeciated.

Just be sure the DPH stern drvie has a good history about service, and that the steering rams are in good shape. The steering rams in the DP-H are very weak even with the smaller 3.7 liter D4 engines, so needs extra care on the 5.5 liter D6. The Atlantis 40 is a fine motor cruiser and is an evolution of the 39 with an added hard top, redesigned cockpit area and one foot longer bathing platform. Hull design came from Micheal Peters.

As Liam said, DPH steering rams and hoses used to fail a lot, mostly solved now. The propellers also used to pit badly, also solved. The hoses on the inner transom shield can also leak (can be a big job).

On the engine side, the D6 had stupid plastic cooler end caps that warped and leaked, they should all be changed to bronze by now. The raw water strainer also had a plastic lid that had a habit of popping off while under load, they should have been changed to stainless/glass by now.

Belt tensioners wear, coolant hoses blister and all the usual wear & tear of any 10 year old engine. As long as it has a good service history, these engine and drives will last you a long time.

Get your local Volvo engineer to give them a look over before purchase.
