    Hello everyone!
    I just got my ENG-1 and I am taking my STCW courses next week. I live in aventura (central to Fort Lauderdale and Miami) where I will soon be placing all my belonging in storage and looking for work.

    Would you recommend going through a crew placement agency, dock walking, or taking a trip to Europe (south of France) to find work as a new stewardess?

    any tips are appreciated. I also work in the Lauderdale marine center as a bartender at the new restaurant called YOT. I’ve made some connections there but nothing has clicked since I was not certified when first meeting some crew members.

    I would recommend that you keep networking where you are. Also to find a job before you head to Europe or anything like that. Europe's season doesn't start for several months and you are in the high time of our season.

    I think you just should cover all bases. Spread the word where you work, talk to placement agencies. walk the docks, circulate where captains and chief stews are. I would not take off for Antibes without a job, I'd wait for something in Fort Lauderdale where you do have a source of income while waiting. When I say circulate, I do mean business environments as I don't find after hours places such as bars and clubs as a place to make business contacts, but places like marinas and nearby popular places for lunch. An example is the café and crew areas of Rybovich. Great place to share your business card as a yacht stew. Ask captains and stews if they know of anyone looking for a stew. That someone may just be them. Grab any possible day work, be available as an emergency fill in. One day scrubbing a boat down inside and out can show much about your work attitude and willingness.

    I would keep my resume up to date at all times and, while it will lack yachting experience, emphasize training and any applicable other attributes or experience. You can still have a resume that says to potential employers they should hire you. I would also get some nice, professionally done, business cards as soon as I finished the STCW. There is also a three day course in Yacht Interior Introduction and a one day course in Yacht Interior Basic Food and it could help to take those and add to your resume while showing initiative. There is a Bartending Mixology Course I wouldn't think you would need.

    Many brokers and builders hire help for boat shows too and I'd look for any of those opportunities.

    Don't quit that job at YOT. So many would-be crew would kill for that kind of access to Brokers, Captains, and Senior Crew.
