Just read how Amels is building the 24th and 25th models in their Limited Edition 180 range.
Am I missing something ? Do you get like a free tea cosy or something with every purchase ?
If I had around $40 Mill. to spend, I'd expect something a bit unique. These all look the same. Can someone please explain what it is with this model that makes it so appealing to that amount of people. Considering that most of the engineering would have already been done, I'd expect the price to be a fair bit lower too. Beach club is a bit naff and even though the sundeck is a great size, geez I wish they would redo that roof thing. Tusks are so Passe.

Same reason why a lot of people choose Westport in the US: high quality yacht that enables you to blend in. For some owners, you will attract a lot less media attention from a large yacht series vs a custom build. Price and timing is also better and is quite a bit cheaper than what you would get for a full custom order.

And you know what you're getting probably at a very predictable time frame. We have no desire for a fully custom boat as we just don't feel the need to reinvent the wheel. We like knowing exactly how it will ride and perform. We're going to order a boat in January and it will be semi-custom in the same way. Proven hull and structure and customizable interior.

And the $40 million won't come close to buying a 180' custom boat either. $40-45 million will buy you a new Westport 164 or a 3 to 4 year old Amels 180.

As to blending in, some feel the less attention the better, but it's more often just some have a greater desire to be noticed than others do.

I do like their 74 m model though. Especially PLVS VLTRA . Amazing what a few pin stripes can do. I wonder if the designer gets a flat fee or a cheque every time they sell one ? Meantime, I just checked my pockets and found a spare $40 Mill. in change. Gonna call Benetti tomorrow and see what they want for their Oasis 40 M model. Wonder if they'll take coins.?

Not even comparable in price. The Oasis is just under €20m.

I was budgeting for a fully stocked bar.

Amels 242 is the best limited edition I think. 272 looks too top heavy.
