Looking for Modern Maid range cook top. MFG # 0040068. This part is no longer available from Maytag. These stoves were very common on old Bertram and Hatteras yachts. Our unit works like a champ but the cook top needs replacement. Maybe somebody has done some updates and has not thrown the old top away yet. Thx, Ralph Jacksonville FL
With all the totals this last year, I thought I'd bump up a few old part wanted post. After all these years, the stove top still works, just looks like war surplus now. The oven starting to look sad also. The ole Modern Maid fits perfect and works for full time live-a-boards. Anybody about to toss their old M/M stuff?
Oh yes, they laugh at me.. It's an 40 year old stove. It was popular on old boats. as mine and others, it's a waiting game, who rips it out first or waits for someone to rip out theirs and get in line.
Still looking for a good used Modern Maid stove top and oven. Old stuff, works so well. I don't have the patience to re-engineer the cabinets to mount new junk.
Sorry Capt Ralph, I'm not ready to redo my Galley yet. Still need mine. Be a couple more years. I will be on the lookout for you.
I just had another thought if all you need is the top what about restoring it. It is stainless steel. Maybe it could be polished up again?
Any good metal shop with a high pressure water cutter and a form bender should be able to make you one or two from a pattern of the old one.
Chrome over steel. I guess I can have the stove top re-chromed but the rust damage will remain. A suggestion came in about painting the stove top with Imron. Been thinking about this. The surface of a stove top takes a bit of abuse and then some heat in reflected heat and hot spills. Will modern fill and paint hold up? Special products? Won't gas off and effect the food?
Why do I get the feeling that you'll spend on the top half of what a whole new cooktop will cost and then the wires will short out? Maybe after 40 years it'd be worthwhile to just bite the bullet and get new.
