    Hi all,

I dont know if this is the right place to start a thread like this but I will give it a try. On a dutch forum they started a CG (computer graphic) Contest with boats as subject. So I had to join it.

Firts my plan was to design my one ship but it wasn't exactly what i want.
This was the final picture

Then I decided to remake a Wally Design. I love their designs and some of my designs are inspired on theirs. (see the Orion SuperYacht thread). First the plan was to make the 118 wallypower but someone else decided to make that one:mad: So i decided to remake one of there sailing yachts in 3d. The 94 Open Season.

    Its not finished yet.

That is my idea of a detailed rendering! How long did it take you to develop it to that last picture?

About three weeks. I had to figure out some things to make the water correct, sails good and the teak deck. I think if I make now a model like this it wil take me about 1/1.5 week. (full time)

The hull form looks very nice. But I do worry about the huge volume of the "aft cockpit" ("tender well"?). My concerns are that it could weaken the hull structure at that point. Which can be critical if caught in a storm. If you feel it needs such great length, Ok. But I would make it a little less wide, which would have the effect of increasing the spacing between the cockpit wall and the outer hull wall. Also I would raise the floor height some. Both of these changes would increase the strength of the hull.

    Hi 3dshiparts,

nice work! do you use rhino and flamingo as 3d software and rendering engine? Seem you use HDRI for your renderings. Could you show me the dutch link with the competition?

One question, what is the purpose of that stern part of the yacht? Pic 5 until 7, I do not like the water. I like most 2-4.

    regards,

    Jos

Thank you, I use 3d Studio Max for modelling and Brazil rendering engine for the rendering. Yes I use a HDRI for the reflections. The link of the competition is:

The stern part is only for relaxing I think.

Do you have any tips for the water?

    3D-model Obpen Season

    2 remarks:
Wally Yachts is a highriser in a very competitional market. I advise to be very careful using their/anyones logo and design in pbulic for your skills. As far as i see (my models are on www.turbosquid.com, search: tsoe) if someone uses an actual brand and brandname for his fun then it should be very clear to the brand-owners. If only they feel that they heave to ask you what you and the group is doing there with their things, you'll normally heave to pay for that.
It is possible that you heave also to pay their lawyers, too, even for asking you. Yacht-design in that area is ab. some millions each and lawyers (also in france/monaco i think) take a fixed part of that.
So it is generally a good thing to ensure you and your group ab. that.

Second: This Wally lives from it's "vanishing" optic. When you see the pics on the wally-net and in the magazins you see that the design is hold- back and not forward. Together with some big tricks and know-how, like the outstanding big glasswall. So you show your ability in a contest with an object that just try to hide everything as much as possible. Was that the idea? All dark in dark. Perhaps it makes sence to switch to some other wallys with similar bodies but lighter materials, so everybody can see what you deliver!

Thank you for your advice. How do you do it? Do you have permission to make the yachts and sell them on turbosquid?

I choose this model because i like the design very much and I like the dark look of it. Perhaps I should make a more caribbian scene of it. With blue lagoon water.

Oops! So this competition is strictly a rendering exercise. Not a design contest. I misunderstood the goal, my bad.

yes, in some cases i get orig. plans from the shipyard ore the designers. So i heave different versions of models, the "nearly a..."s and the "something like"s. The nearlys are made from material i got from the producers, the other peaces i model from somehow official published material.
In the turbosquid-text i restrict the use to architectural renderings. And again in a readme-file wich is always enclosed to the zip-file of the whole model.
When you look on my models you'll find some very carefull describtions in some cases, trying to make sure that every reader grasps at once, what this is, what i do with it and that there is no use of their rights on their toys (and it's not the selling of a model of xxx, even when they look very much alike, but an enlargement of a scene for a rendering to support and publish similar leveled real estate objects).
    And that's it!

Ah ok. I only use the final render for the contest and some are the renderings wil be shown on my website. I will sent Wally Yachts an email so I hope that i don't get any problems in the future.

I dont sell any of my 3d models. I only sell renderings of the yachts that I make to shipyards and yacht designers.

Top pic shows best what a buyer would want to see.

Middle pic is more dramatic, good for an advertising spot.

Bottom pic is a little off key. Interesting water treatment. But disappointing that the water does not show wake. And the angle on the boat just doesn't pop. Filler at best for that one.
