The summer of 08 my 41' aluminum roamer was launched in Giibralter, Michigan. Arrived at her home port of Elk Rapids, Michigan 3 days later. She now sits in her barn awaiting a restoration.
Ah Ha... The 41 I love the 41. Glad you are starting a thread.. we will be anxiously awaiting your next pictures!! I can't believe nobody has picked up that 41 in Alexandria Bay NY. that one looks sweet too! They were a lot more expensive than the 38. Prices now are the same and 41's are more rare... Beamy mothers they are (15'!) Now conditon is the determinant it appears... We want you to take a show! I like the triple windows. A 41 can be a nice live aboard.. 38 is too small... more sporty type, less yachty perhaps, something like that. Cheers.. we be watching your 41 like Roamerhawks! I mean think about it.... A new Sea Ray like this would be probably 500-550k, is made of basic fiberglass, you can't sit up front, can hardly walk arount it.. and in a head-on, A Roamer will PULVERIZE it.. PLUS, a Roamer can hit a Pile of Rocks and still not sink or blow a hole. So heck, paint job and motor work makes sense to me.. plus come on.. Look at the lines on this 41.. That's as good as it gets.. at least to my eyes.... The other thing about the 41, if you power it right... it will haul fanny and has a nice running attitude, better than the 38 actually.. rides more level.. the 38 is more likely to need trim tabs at a slower plane. Remember, Homer was into these bigtime as a kid.. there were many, well not many but enough up on the St. Lawrence and the Great Lakes.... very rare on the Chesaeake Bay. If someone likes this model... what about looking at the one for sale in Alexandria Bay NYS on the Saint Lawrence Seaway? It's good if the steel is good.. need to check, but chances are pretty decent up there it is. Again, these are rare, most people could not afford this model back then... hence 37's/38's more common. A loaded 41 with diesels was 80k! Homer
Good friend and great mechanic Capt. Bud getting the old girls ready for the trip. He used to race the 427"s back in the 60's. Sunset in Port Huron on the way around. 4 to 6 footers out of Rogers City headed to Mackinaw Bridge.
I just happen to own RDP 41-3502 and we love it. We spent 3.5 years restoring her and we are thrilled. Never waver - it all becomes worth it!
1968 38' Commander A few years back I restored my 1968 38' Commander. Then I found my 41' Aluminum Roamer dream boat. As soon as my Commander sells I will get started on restoring my Roamer . I learned alot rebuilding the Commander. Between that and reading the Roamer threads I should be able to do even better with my Roamer. I can't wait to get started.
I finally sold the Commander. Getting ready for Awlgrip paint. Flybridge will be sanded and primed. Hull has been sanded and is being primed.
Well now, "Classic" is certainly is a shaping up to be one of the finer 41 Regals extant and with her a hull# we can now place her onto the Roamer firmament with the other "stars" out there illuminating the heavens. Yes, we keep a "List of Known Survivors" which I can send if you email me at: alloyed2sea at yahoo dot com. So far we can report finding thirty-five out of the fifty eight total steel(31) and aluminum (27) Regal 41s manufactured by CC between 1967 and 1970 - some in incredible condition. Would love to hear more of her story, what projects you are working on, same name?, etc. Until then, cheers! -Eric "Tin Tonic"
