When you " explore" do you feel comfortable leaving the boat unattended ? or do you leave someone on board.
I ask for security reasons more than anchoring reasons.

    P.S. nice pictures

Rose Island is a long thin island just ENE of NAS. Popular for day trips. Some nice beaches and snorkeling

I still remember the background of a Conch shell mountain and bullet ridden Jack Tar motel.
Most here have not a clue.
The waters from here to W C / Strangers to Spanish were still pristine. Although, I thought I found Jimmy Hoffa one day,,,, Naw,,, Not him... ????

Ole Bahama Bay, Yes it may have screwed up a good place....

Oh, Ole Honeymoon, in the mits of what you were talking about. When the current came over from the east, pretty and calm. Always amazing. Hope that has not been messed up. Old Curtis radial engine was still there my last visit.

Now I'm really showing my age.
    Yes, I'm an old Crapper.
AND, I'm still on the same bottle as Monday. I've been to easy on you kids.

Honeymoon Harbor was cut thru by a storm around 2004/2005. The beach is half what it used to be with water flowing on the west side between the Cay and the rocks. Stingrays still patrol the beach though and a dock was built on the bank side ...

Just out & south of there was a nice lil reef with some short pinnacles. Total depth no more than 25 feet.
Made the rookies look good in any photo.
Hate it when I see numbers (2004/2005). It reminds me just how long ago and how old I'm getting.

Not that I want to be involved, but one of those 2 probably has too much time on his hands, the other one too much rum in his belly :D:cool:

Also too many looking loos and wakes from the water taxis pulling in and out of valentines. I prefer Romora bay, it’s restaurant and the dock staff over valentines

I recently stayed a Palm Cay and enjoyed the accommodations but beware in the summer months as the 'government' completely shuts off the electricity for HOURS. We had about $300 dollars worth of groceries spoil while we were out boating due to the electricity being off while we were away for 8 hours. Mind you the staff at the resort when we checked-in DID NOT mention this nor do they have generators for the accommodations. Nonetheless, Palm Cay is a nice, private, safe, modern resort with a nice marina that is in a great location for going to/from the Exumas.

Late to this one, but a few thoughts:

The larger Bruce anchors, say 30kg and up, are excellent. I've never heard a complaint about a large Bruce. However, for whatever reason it doesn't scale well into the smaller sizes, and has issues cutting through weed (not a big issue in Bahamas I know). I have seen some smaller Bruce's (sub 25kg) drag in big winds when I really didn't expect them to move because it was a good firm sand bottom.

At 55' and 70,000lb we are very secure with 1/2" g4 chain and a 100lb Manson Boss (no roll bar). I would have probably gone with 7/16" g4 chain, but windlass options were limited so I upsized. 1/2" is more than adequate for this size boat, but it's at the limit of what you can pull up manually (6'+ male in my 30s) . Our windlass died and suddenly I missed the 3/8 chain of our old boat that I could throw around if needed.

Regarding Bahamas, Nassau is not the Bahamas. If you want the real Bahamas anchor out. I have never been to a marina there that I felt was worth the cost of admission. It's not the price, it's the value. I've always been happier taking the tender into the government dock or to a restaurant dock to enjoy town but duck back out to isolation afterward. The beauty of the Bahamas is not found in town.
