Have you checked for line wrapped around the shaft between the wheel and strutt?

Could be cutlass bearing, shaft log, thrust bearing, flywheel adapter and/or more.

Give us something to go on? What clutch? In gear forward and/or reverse?
Like when did it start? After it was worked on or when you went over some shallow water?

does in both forward / reverse , about a year ago , I noticed , I called Harper Detroit , mechanic said , test oil , that should give necessary info , but nothing ...flywheel adapter , that's sounds ominous ,

I did blow a oil line in that tranny couple yrs ago , never went dry , just made a big mess , refilled oil , then changed oil again , seems fine , but yes that sound has come from that time frame ..

Can you clarify your first post ?

“but you can feel a rubbing , when in engine room cannot hear or feel anything , ”. Well which is it? Confused

Can you turn the shaft by hand from inside boat?

Are you sure the rubbing noise isn’t more like the pressurized oil making a noise

Someone already asked what gear you have.... most 8V71s cane with Allison’s.

So it doesn’t do it in neutral? Have you compared gear pressure with the other engine, in Neutral, Fwd and reverse? Any air bubble or foam on the dipstick? Assuming you have Alisons I doubt it s low on oil as the first symptom would be a delay in getting in forward

can only feel rubbing from the wheel , no room to turn shaft inside , but did outside prior to launch all was fine , yes Allisons , just in gear not neutral .. will check next time leave the dock for foaming issue , and thanks

Don’t forget that with Allisons oil level must be checked engine running at idle in neutral although I don’t think it s low pressure issue as explained above

    Does the oil look clean?

now wondering if rubbing feel , s from drippless stuffing box , had installed maybe 10 yrs ago , been out about 3 hrs total this season , and found I had 2 quarts of water in container under stuffing box , so its leaking , not sure how to fix , or even check , could this be my rubbing feeling from the wheel ??
