I just think the broker can have an effect on the market.
We all seem to agree that sellers will keep listing prices higher as a rule. They over value everything they have. I sure do. I like to think I am reasonable and that I look at the market but I err on the higher value side of the equation. I am simply trying to say that brokers may do the same thing as a rule and in the interest of maintaining the higher selling prices this make sense to me.
I think differently on this matter, that is all.

Partly depends on the size of the boat you are selling. Yachtworld carries all sizes but a lot of the boats are larger than 30'. One web site to consider is Boats.com which has a fair number of boats for sale. There is a For Sale By Owner web site for boats, and a web site called the hull Truth Forum is good for bass boats and center consoles.

Although I'm late coming to the party, and Olderboater pretty much redirected your thoughts, here's my 2 cents about your comment: "Brokers want to keep the prices high to keep the market from deflating. Imagine if brokers recommended low ball asking prices, that just doesn't help with commission and it certainly doesn't help with comps."

When it was time to buy my first boat, I contacted a reputable broker who guided me through the purchasing process. Her knowledge, candor, and expertise in the field was [is] outstanding. After making my selection, she was instrumental in developing a realistic offer. Talk about "greasing the rails", the broker was wholly dialed in with a well regarded surveyor for hull, and another for engine. Her Rolodex ["old-school" broker] included a reputable and conscientious captain to care for the boat in my absence while working as a deck officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine, and multiple contractors for "issues". As luck would have it, the broker had intimate and in-depth knowledge of the vessel I selected, and that proved beneficial in the transaction.

Ok, so it was $20.00 not $0.02!! LOL That said, your strategy for selling is stellar.

For Triton 84, you might want to explore what JWY has to offer. If she can, she will. If she can't, she will let you know that too. However you go, good luck on the "second happiest day"!

If the boat/yacht hasn't sold on either yachtworld or boat trader, than it is simply priced to high for it's condition. Something is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it, in a REASONABLE amount of time, provided it's marketed correctly. If it hasn't sold in 6 months and it's on yachtworld or boat trader with a good description and pictures, it is priced too high.

OR, The style of the boat is not desirable any more. When that happens, you can't give it away.
