So for me and the OP: I have a pretty good history of piloting a recreation yacht under 60 feet. What would I have to show to a reputable bareboat charter to try out some other boats in the Carbib - or anywhere?

I have no captain's license or any official qualifications, except my logs.

Probably just your resume of boats you've owned/operated/run.

Wisdom is welcome Haley. Forums are all about collective knowledge, where we learn from each others experience. Do you have something you can add to the thread or is this a business visit?

Oh my. Do you suspect he's seeking TimP's business and not simply offering to help out of the kindness of his heart?

Instead of exiting at the Erie Canal - continue thru the Seaway into the Atlantic, down the Gaspe to PEI and Maine.

Yes, but separately. We've done the Great Loop, but then separately, we've come up and around, through the Gaspe to PEI and down to Quebec City and Montreal. Separate trip, different boat. Part of a trip up the East Coast and back. Summer of 2018.

So many great side trips to the loop and I count that as one, Trent Severn as one but when we looped, not a good boat for that just like we couldn't do the Western Erie so was Oswego and then the Welland after time on Lake Ontario.

All the great rivers. Again, we didn't have a boat for the Champlain either. But so many people miss the Delaware even after many trips to the Chesapeake. They never take it up to Philadelphia. We also list the Mississippi north of the intersection with the Illinois, the Missouri, the lower Mississippi, the Ohio and then the others from Three Rivers, the Arkansas, and then the ones we have done, the Cumberland, Tennessee and TN Tom.

We intend to repeat the loop several times and pick up different rivers and areas each time. After the loop, we kept the boat on the Tennessee to enable us to his more inland rivers.

I did the super loop twice, once in 1989 and again in 2009. Nice to see the slight differences.

My first personal boat was 65' and I was 13 in 1961. I bought it at an auction with my own earnings. But I come from a maritime family. A licensed captain spent several day with me, mostly docking and undocking from many different docks and later different wind and current conditions before I was allowed to operate on my own.

That’s a great story, love that type of experience and commitment from you and your family to the boating lifestyle.

Hard to imagine todays youth doing the same at 13 years old, I am sure there are still some but it is a shrinking pool, especially with the new knee-jerk laws that go into place in our marine community.
