    Dear All:

My family and I relocated to Singapore and we are thinking about buying a 2009 Marquis 420 SC. We owned a 30' powerboat previously, but in freshwater lake in the USA. We are now living in Singapore, where things are FAR more expensive. We found this Marquis with less than 250 hours on the motors and good track record of maintenance. That said, the interior (wall coverings and overhead cloth) are coming off and some electronics are not working well (especially navigation screens burned out from sun). There is a link to the boat below. We negotiated for $110k USD, which seems quite good for Singapore. It was antifouled every year (with receipts) and the sea trial went fine, motors and generator worked as they should. The seller disclosed that one prop likely needs replaced as an anode was bad and one prop corroded. We would love something bigger and newer, but even dropping $110K USD + estimating another $10-20k needed to bring it up to safe operating condition is a lot for us. Any words of wisdom/advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you

That price is way below market value. Good luck

Thank's all. They will dive under the boat tomorrow for a last check before we close. I hope seller/broker honest.

    Cheers....

But it was anti-fouled at the end of 2018 (not long ago obviously), I have the receipt and the photos:

IPS drives? No haul out? No mechanical inspection? Less than half price of market value?

You should never depend on that. They don't work for you. You should depend on the surveyors you're paying.

When a deal is too good to be true... it is.

Hope I m wrong but buying without a haul out and survey? IPS repairs aren’t cheap

The 420 SC was built with Volvo IPS, exclusively.

Hi All: I fear the wisdom posted was not followed. Regardless, I take the boat tomorrow and we sail to the other side of Singapore for it's new home. The diver was a paid professional, or so it was claimed. The broker also stated that the owner was meticulous, but I cannot find a receipt for an oil change since 2016. I am hoping for a miracle, but expecting the worst....

    Thanks

Here is the posting.... again, I sure hope it is OK. I did a sea trial, but I am not an expert. I brought another boat owner with me, but he is not a technical expert. Lastly, there was a captain we hired, but I do expect he works for the broker. Regardless, what is done is done. We'll see....

Okay, well ...good luck. But the purpose of your post in the first place as well as subsequent posts, escapes me.

He was excited about his new find, wanted to share and the pictures make it look like a real nice boat.
As Granny used to say , " you've made your bed, now lay in it"
    Good luck.

We relocated the boat from Senotosa Cove to Raffles Marina today, about 2 hours or so on the water. Navigating around Singapore is a bit exciting... but the boat performed very well. Engines ran strong, generator no hiccups. Everything seems to be fine. The only glitch is the refrigerator inside doesn't work, and one set of lights in the second bedroom. So, maybe we got lucky.

Sorry for any confusion invoked. I was looking for any advice on maintenance or other system checks we should do before hitting the water. I should have said from the beginning that I was trusting the broker and in the subsequent divers I hired. Again, so far so good. I hope this clarifies.

Congratulations on your new boat! I hope the rest of your ownership continues to work out great. A two hour delivery without issues should bode well. Enjoy!

Thanks, we plan to change out the batteries, fluids, cleaned up generally, and use it... The Volvo shop in Singapore had checked the motors and said all is well. The IPS drives were rebuilt in 2016, and work wonderfully. It is a joy to "drive". Again, in retrospect we took a big risk, but with any luck we will get by with just replacing the parts that were disclosed to us as needing repaired from the beginning. Even if we sink more $$$ into it, unless something is really wrong, we should be OK financially. The replies here already have been educating.

    Cheers from S'pore
