Was looking to paint the head white and put down corian countertops...recommendatiom for paint? Would prefer a single part paint I can roll on.
What are you painting? The actual Head? That's nasty! OR the sole and walls/bulk heads? Walls etc, Petit easypoxy is what I would use. They have an additive to reduce the gloss. They may have semi-gloss too. OR good old Z-Spar #99 white...
Pervious meat head on my boat painted the head seat and lid on my boat...that's why I had to clarify! Orange peel finish? You mean the color now? Or the original vinyl wall paper? Hope your boat is ready soon! Getting cold up here in Philly area...you have a lot of us Y.F. members to take out fishing!
Walls have previously been painted...want to refinish from dull grey to white...was thinking that rubber teak decking for the floors and corian countertops over the old top...the current finish on the paint had a orange peel texture finish
Your going to have to deal with the texture problem. Block it down or fill it with primer filler and block that down. Have you thought about formica panels ? Not the vinyl covered cardboard but real counter & cabinet formica. Bomb proof in heads.
Rest of the boat has tan corian tops so was looking to keep the theme going so it doesn't look all hodgepodge...then again, whatever the wife says goes
I did look at some laminate type wall coverings but cannot find anyone local who is interested in the job...they are all too busy with construction
Yep, formica on the walls. It does take some pratice to cut. I used heavy construction paper to make my patterns, transferred to the formica sheet, scribed and cut. Stright edge and router to really clean up the edges.. Glued up. Then set counter top. Reused the original trim. It may look a lil steril but with a bunch of beer drinkers you soon to have on board, it will be welcome. Ammonia wont stain formica, not much will.
yuck! on the Florida Orange peel stuff. I'm just starting my floors in both heads and galley area. I'm removing the vinyl sheet stuff and installing 12 x 12 cork tiles with a semi-white factory finish on them. They have many other tiles to choose from dark to light / natural colors. Getting it from Jelinekcorkgroup. I did not want to go with the teak and holly look. What CR said you may have to fill in the walls with west system and 410 filler or some 1 to 1 filler to get a smooth paint finish...maybe just a sanding on the wall will be all that is needed.
Cork would be the last thing I put down in a head. Think about what will undoubtedly hit that floor and how do you clean it .
They come already varnished or like mine , a white like coating over them and with either one you can add your own varnish or more clear sealant over them. Yes I would not use plane old cork tiles as you said. these are 4mm thick like an Armstrong tile , but give just a bit. I had them on my 1962 Matthews , original in the saloon varnished , and gave a nice soft tone to the sole. I did install teak and holly through the rest of that boat, but it worked with that wood boat. IMO, teak and holly or teak and black lines don't work so well with some modern boats. Looks, that is not function.
You clean it like any floor , Spray Nine and rags..Lol I use that stuff everywhere. Or glass cleaner if it's not to bad.
Awlgrip. They use it for spraying porcelain tubs here in Florida and it holds up extremely well and doesn't peel or bubble if you use their primer. Will need to sand down to a smooth texture first. Can use it on the floor with glass beads to make a non skid finish as well.
Decided to stand the walls smooth and paint with easypoxy...going to do the countertops with starboard. Cut the old scalloped sink out and put in a stainless drop in sink. Will tile the backsplash with the peal and stick tiles. Non skid on the floor. Doors near the commode are missing and will put smoked plexiglass sliding doors in. Then towel bars etc....faucet will be from a big box store. Brushed nickel
