She was built in 1930 by Lawley as Shogun at 130' LOA, went through several owners before being acquired for WWII service by the Royal Canadian Navy serving as HMCS Moose. After the war she was rehabilitated as a yacht. She was in my hometown of New Orleans as Ottelia II during the late 1950's and 1960's. She eventually found her way to Europe where she was Candida for a time. The last news I had of her was when she was acquired by a South African casino resort and named Uthingo. Does anybody have any current information on this vessel?

This was a brokerage ad from the 1930's advertising her for sale.

    Hi Guys
I live in Durban SA and work in and around the port.
Not exactly sure of what happened but I presume one of the old rivers gave way, she has not been docked in 15 years so it was inevitable.
No articles unfortunately .she was nearing completion .prob be sold for scrap.

Thanks for the pics, Clayton. Please let us know anything else you learn about this sinking or plans to raise her. It was most likely a bad hose on a through-hull fitting.

    Hi Clayton
I have been watching the steady if slow refurb of Uthingo over the years, under the eye of a gentleman called Mike Lillyman.
I was always aware of the problem of the hull rust deterioration. Was hoping she would be hauled out and converted into a B&B or visitor shop at the near by Yacht Club ? Had a dream of making a Ferro Cement replica of her beautiful lines so any drawings pics you might dig up would be greatly loved, also please kep me in the loop of further developements. Thanks.
