    We basically ran into the same situation.... After we replaced the rudders we blew out a Hydraulic line on 2 different fishing trips. After the 2nd time I had someone come in and run all new lines from the bridge down. Wasn't cheap but well worth it in the long run....Had the shelf and everything redone about 7-8 yrs, ago.

    Hi Dan,
    I'm listing my 1995 46 this week with a broker, like most owners I think it's one of the best on the market!
    6V92's @565hp 200/1100 hours. Lying Ft Myers. We just completed a 650NM trip through the Bahamas and she ran flawlessly (used no oil!), will be in the Keys during the holidays. Spent almost $100k since 2015 including paint and port side rebuild. PM me for pics and details.

    Hello Everyone,

    As some know, I have begun my search for a 42'-46' Post. Looking for some advise from Post owners.

    I have two boats I am interested in:

    1990 44' and 1989 46'- both are powered by 6v92 550hp, Onan generators
    - Main Hours: 46'- 1000 44'- 1990
    -generator: both have 3,000
    Price: Both asking the same

    44':
    Pros- Very clean boat, has a crane on bow
    Cons: no records of rebuilds (they said they were rebuilt), engine survey showed coolant in oil in one of the mains, Some moisture in the bow pulpit area

    46':
    Pros- Very clean boat, Espar Heating System, countless services records including documented rebuilds one both mains 1000 hours ago.
    Cons- Engine room - oil under the mains (leaks from oil filter housings from what I can tell), moisture readings around side windows and bow pulpit, No crane

    Questions:
    I know these boats are almost 30 years old and I already figured there would be moisture found. I have never purchased or owned a boat with moisture found. Is this a big concern?

    The 46' has great records on upgrades, maintenance and a documented rebuild. I know the DD are known to be leakers. With oil being present at the showing, Should this be a concern? I am a huge neat freak especially in the engine room of a boat.

    The 44' shows from survey coolant in the oil, Could this just be a head gasket? My other concern, is how long has the boat been running with contaminated oil, possible rebuild?

    Conclusion:
    On the market right now, there is not much to pick from. We are hoping to find the right boat by the spring, but I am being patient on our purchase. This purchase will be a long term boat and looking forward to creating memories and customizing it to fit our style.

    1. Don’t know how important the davit is to you, but I just had my manual 1000lb replaced with a fully hydraulic 1000lb. The fully hydraulic was $25,000 installed. No chocks or tie downs. The manual I bought in 08 and I think it was 15,000 installed with chocks and tie downs. I was on board for the original davit install and I thought it was going to be major surgery but 2 guys did in 2 days. They had it down. My point is if a davit is important to you don’t worry about the install too much other than the money of course. I am pretty sure y0u will find that Onan no longer supports the older units so parts can be hard to source. I had a new northern lights 20KW installed last year. I believe it was 25,000 (not installed) with sound shield, remote gauge panel, and 24V electric. Moisture around the windows could mean corroded window frames. I had my salon windows replaced and in the corners the aluminum frames were corroded to the point that there were holes in them. Waterway systems in Sarasota will make you knew window frames out of aluminum. He is very honest and does what he says. I can’t remember the numbers on those. My point is that provided you are comfortable spending the money there are competent people/businesses that deal with some of the issues you sighted. Hope this helps.

    There are no aluminum window frames on these boats.
