This has to be one of the most painful videos to watch! There's a lot of questions as to why this was ever attempted with breaking waves to beam.

As Classic Week starts in Antigua, I thought I would share this photo of my late friend Kenny Coombs. He was one of the founders of the Classics and skippered many too. His wife Jane still runs the festival.

The picture is of one of his crew slipping off the foredeck on a sail change. In a split second, Kenny leans over the side, and with one hand, plucks him back onboard while travelling at speed. Boy, was he strong!

Brave but stupid move by the mate that literally jumped to help. Jumping off boats is bad on the knees, spine, and has potential for far worse. What if the deck was wet? What if he misjudged? What if the small boat skipper maneuvered? It's only a boat and no lives were in danger.

Add to that the risk of damaging the deck of the other boat and being held liable for that. So, really stupid move in so many ways. Could have slipped right before the jump and ended up between the two boats.
