Hard to think of a trawler with gassers and mainship quality isn't the best. Not familiar with the rosborough.

Hard to give an opinion on all the others. Overall albins are pretty good. Taiwan trawlers from the 80 were hit or miss especially when it came to fuel tanks and system s

The year of these boats isnt as important as the initial built quality or the maintenace and upgrades it received.

I ll take a 70s vintage hatteras or Bertram or... to a 90s vintage taiwan trawler.

It appears to me; your not a seasoned boater and your shopping by price.
    That's o k.
In boat shopping and asking for support we do need certain information.
Where are you going to cruise? How many on board? Live-aboard?
OR, is this a dock queen apartment project?

Hatteras and Bertram sounds good and reliable names. can you find their trawlers? I only saw convertible and flybridge cruisers Bert on the market. no trawler under Hatteras either.

I'm looking for a power boat under 36' for occasional cruise fun and live aboard for the sailing season.
trawler is in my mind for the advice I received from my previous visits on this forum, for its 3 gph economy and 7 knots is fast enough in my need.
budget wise lower is better. I want to know whether I should want a Grand bank or a Marine Trader for only half the money (if it fulfills my need and is not a bad name), or an Alvin that's priced in between?

Then we know to stay away from cheap gassers. Your first post included a twin gas model that may make better reef material than a trawler.

Bertram never made a cruiser or trawler. Their MYs (like mine) are fun and safe but NO economy.

Hatteras made LRCs (long range cruisers). Almost a trawler, more interior room yet still able to make some MPG. Glass fuel tanks were nice also.

I found only one Hatteras that's not a gas: 1983 Hatteras 36 Sports Fisherman
but it's fish boat and I don't fish so the space is kind of wasted

And sport fishers will not make MPG well either.

Fuel costs are only a small part of the overall costs... don't obsess on fuel economy.

Any boat came be run at hull speed (anywhere between 7 and 9 kts depending on length) and get reasonable fuel economy in the 5 to 9 GPH range. If that's too high.... learn how to sail :)

My 53 Hatteras MY burns about 9gph at 9kts.

You may be burning 5gph at 6 or 7kts in a 36' trawler but what are the actual savings? Go 2 or 3 kts faster on an additional 4 to 5 GPH? Makes little difference by the time to factor in dockage, insurance, maintenance, etc. fuel is a very small part of the average budgets

Ocean Yachts Sunliner model, are a nice boat. Made in the 80's. Ocean made a 42 and 46 foot model. Both have the same roomy bright layout. Detroit Diesel power in most, lots of DD mechanics around, not so with Perkins. It's a nice used boat for the price. It's kind of a stylish fast trawler, in my opinion. You can run them slow like a trawler or fast like a sport fish.

thanks, but even 42' is too large for my use. I'm looking for under 36'.
