Hello--I am really torn between these two boats. Our use case is Cape Cod waters, comfortable for big family and grandchildren day use, lite if any fishing, maybe overnight to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard from a Hyannis dock. I am looking at older 2005 or 2006 Tiara 3200. Overall in good condition for the age. Pricing I am comfortable with. From the NE and winterized/maintained regularly. Will of course have surveyed. LOA is specced at 32', beam is 13' and weight is 16,000 lbs. Powered by Crusader gas and understand the issues here. (Gas versus diesel another discussion)

Alternate boat is much newer (2104 or so) Tiara 3100 Coronet. Much more comfortable layout for family and guest, seating, tables and more but I am struggling with 12.5' beam and lower weight of 13,500 lbs. I want a very seaworthy boat and am concerned about the lighter weigh boat and slightly narrower beam. More money but it the big scheme of things much newer and more comfortable

Should I be concerned on these weight and beam differences in terms of seaworthiness for these Cape waters? I have studied and looked for many months and have narrowed it down to this manufacturer and size for the boat--at least for today. (And purchase cost)

Weight means NOTHING when it comes to ride on a planning hull. Hull design is everything. I'd go diesel period.

Understood on the diesel side. Are there any differences in these hull designs I should be concerned about. I know many owners of Tiaras in the Cape area--very popular boat. They get high marks for ocean going in these waters.

    Any input appreciated

Walk thru to the for deck could be important on the Coronet.
I'm a fan of the Open for higher sight lines.

Take a look and see if you can find a used 32' Cabo, they are better built and even better sea boat than the Tiara.

I have not owned the boats in question but years ago I had a 31 Tiara and loved the boat. I think the newer models have more deadrise than mine did. The boat was a wet boat but you had the windshield and wipers, it did not offer a great head sea ride but it was more than offset by its very good overall handling in following and quartering seas. I understand the preference for diesel but mine was a gas boat and think it cruised at 22 knots and planed easily. It did not feel underpowered. With the shorter season of the NE are diesels worth it? I guess that is an individual choice. Diesels used to have the bullit proof reputation that I don’t think applies to today’s modern diesels with the high hp to cubic inch ratios and higher rpms. Diesels are expensive to maintain properly but maybe my perception is distorted since I now own MANs. Unless things have changed at Tiara I think you will get a good boat that is more dedicated to cruising than fishing. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. It all the art of compromise. It is also coming from a 2015 15' Boston Whaler Montauk and so we consider this our "starter" boat. We will learn a lot, paid reasonable used boat pricing and will certainly get more educated. If we decide to do something different or bigger we will be armed with valuable information after this experience. These forums have been great for that education. We put the offer in on at the 2014 3100 Coronet. Next comes the surveys and then some fun. Thanks
