purchased old 1978 Broward. Mechanically in good shape. Does anyone know how to track down old schematics or descriptions of system runs on these

I don't think you'll have much luck with that.

Your question is the reason YachtForums exists; to connect with Broward owners and captains for the same info you're seeking. We had a 1982 72' Broward and we were unable to get schematics or supplier information from Glenn Straub, who owned Broward Marine at the time. Most of the original documentation was lost in a fire at the yard, although some of the suppliers maintained documentation. (if they are still in business)

Access to wiring runs wasn't a priority for Broward. "Out of sight, out of mind" is more befitting. Honestly, I don't think they expected their boats to last this long! There's a few captains on YF that have run Browards and they may be able to route you in the right direction. Give the thread some time to simmer. I know YF member Captain Rocky ran a Broward for awhile. He checks in regularly.

If you post a few pics of the boat, you might get some surprising responses. A lot of old salts around here! And at least one Broward fan... me! :)

Broward's came with the four basic drawings of outboard profile, general arrangement, tankage and docking plan. They would then generate "as built" plans of the basic electrical system, switchboard, auto-formers, isolation transformer , bilges and sumps etc. You'll not find a set of complete plans for plumbing nor electrical circuits throughout the vessel. Broward's plumbing runs from the engine room fore and aft were outboard along the tank tops along with minor electrical. The majority of the electrical runs are in the overheads. Flybridge wiring will be behind the wheel house setee bulkhead panel as its removable. Look closely at the fore and aft engine room bulkhead penetrations and this will be your starting point for what and where the systems go.

Came into this boat from an old hatteras. We had schematics and manuals on every system. These were dead on and very useful. Perhaps because hatteras were owner operated, and on custom boats no one cares about crew....

Hatteras's engineering and customer support has been spot on since their beginnings. You can contact their engineering dept. with a hull number and they'll supply you with a complete set of plans to this day. Unfortunately, Broward's archives were destroyed in a massive yard fire so we'll never know how their after sales support would have been. So if you don't mind me asking, What hull number do you have? There are a lot of Broward's past employees out there from this build time that could answer specific questions for you. The good thing about Broward's is that they were very simplified engineering and systems wise. Nothing exotic to be found .

It also occurred to me you could check with Bob Curry. He's probably sold more Browards than any broker in the biz. He may have copies of documentation on similar builds, if not your boat! The VP of marketing for Broward under Tom Louis's tenure was David Weist, who also works with Bob Curry at RJC. And last, you could also try to getting a hold of Bob Denison. Any of these guys are potentially good sources of information. Let 'em know they were referred by YachtForums!

I am looking to purchase Hull # 177 myself within the next few months, after the refit. Get a hold of me if you find out any info, I found several sites from previous owners within the past 15 years or so that were helpful. If you find anything online, I suggest you not only bookmark, but also immediately download the info; two of my info sites are now nowhere to be seen, but I have the info and pics. Good luck!

i found that the water cooled ac will be the main issue
after years and years the plumbing is not reliable and causes water leaks in places that are not reachable

Hey Gary it's Steve Adams, I think for some reason I logged in differently and I seem to have two accounts, but I'm the same guy in the event it shows a different person.
I didn't know that about the plumbing. I guess you're talkin about the chilled water AC system in there. They are redoing mine but I don't know to what degree they're going to be replacing things like Plumbing pipes etcetera. I think they'll probably just inspect it and if it looks good leave it there. Anyway thanks and keep in touch. Let me know how the boats running for you, I have a build history for all Broward yachts so I will look yours up
