I’ve got a 1985 43 . Looking to remove the starboard side cockpit compartment where the washing machine is . Wondering how big of a project it’s going to be . It doesn’t look bad . Anyone tackle this yet ?

A washing machine fits on the starboard side? Surprising with the door offset. I don't have that cabinet on mine. Could be factory or aftermarket. I'm pretty sure you have the salon sliding door on the exterior? So it must be screwed into the deck and maybe on the starboard side? Chances are there are some wood cleats bedded and screwed in. Cabinet screwed into those wood cleats? Maybe teak trim over that? Should be pretty straight forward to take apart in reverse order of the install. Hardest part will probably be breaking the adhesive bond between parts. You will be left with screw holes to deal with. You are painting the floor and starboard side?

When you remove the teak trim around the bottom you will find screws going into a cleat behind the cabinet.

Nice vessel. My side cabinet holds a freezer. To change the compressor I had to unfasten (unscrew) from the floor, bulkhead and side and then slide it out. I suppose you'll have to unfasten similarly.

Amen to that. Post used 5200 like like it was going out of style.
5200 will let go if you can heat it up.
If direct heating might damage the deck or so, then heat a metal putty knife with a heat gun and tap it between the the parts that are held together w/ 5200.
The putty knife option is tedious but it works.

Thanks for the info . I’m pretty sure there’s an release agent for the 5200 . I’ve never used it but seen it around the stores .

There is now a second generation of the 5200 release agent. I look forward to use it one day. The first gen worked well but I have no patience. This second gen stuff is to work for Crappers like me.
I look forward to give it a try one day. If anybody gets a chance to use, please update it somewhere.
