    hey guys,

I’m helping another friend with his 2005 Sea Ray 260. Mercruiser bravo 3

The stern drive is all the way up now. When I try to trim down I hear the pump run but the drive won’t move at all. The motor seems to run fast too(no load) I have oil in tank.

Up won’t do anything, I think it’s just all the way up.

I picked up two end caps for the hydronic rams. I think there just leaking, sucking air.

Do I need any other seals o rings or bushings? Or is the new cap enough?

Last he had two extra good condition rams pt number 98719. Are they the right ones for my bravo 3 stern drive?

    Thank you guys so much!

Also the plastic cap on the hydraulic tilt tank cracked. Could that be because the air sucked in caused a build up in pressure??

    Thanks

Any corrosion or electrolysis visible? Is this boat kept in the water at the slip most of the time? In regards to your part number question above. You would need to find that out from the dealer.

The boat is kept on a lift 100%. Salt water. I don’t see any corrosion or electrolysis, but the anode might be getting in the way.

I did ask the dealer, I was told that’s just a casting number.... bla bla bla. I got the guy who dident know too much. But I was asking for help/ideas/parts. I bought the cylinder caps elsewhere at half the cost. Better quality too, with brass (I think) inside. For that reason I did not push for help too hard.

Most likely a bad solenoid in the trim pump that's not opening. Reverse the hoses on the trim pump and see if up makes it go down.

Am I missing something... there’s two solenoids correct? When they get 12 volts the contacts close (touch) and the hydraulic pump spins.

I’m hearing the pump spinning so the solinoid is working properly, correct?

He means a solenoid valve to allow fluid flow as opposed to a solenoid switch to power the motor.

I worked on it today. I matched the extra cylinders I have up and they are correct. I’ve pulled them both apart. Just waiting on two o ring kits. The cap alone is not enough, I needed two extra o rings for the bottom side of cylinder.

I’ll instal these and see what happens.

As for the motor/pump valve. Is the valve replaceable? Or just the whole assembly?

    Ok update.

Its finished. I installed the rebuilt rams. Everything works perfectly now.

One questions, I put one of the avoids on upside down. So the hole/slot is facing up.

I did this job for very little money. Do I need to turn it around? I used stainless Allen hardware, so I think I can do it with out removing it.

Can I just leave it as is?
