    Hi Everyone.

Great forum, packed with awesome information.

I have begun my research on our future vessel. My wife and I love our pursuit express, but sadly, we are out growing it. With the amount of traveling we do, we would love to have more space and a second stateroom.

One of the boats I am very interested in is a 46' Post, I LOVE the classic lines and the space the boat has to offer. How much of a difference is the ride and performance from Post original hull to the series II?

    Thanks!

I've had both, the II series rides better and is not as wet, you don't catch as much spray over the rails as you would with the earlier hull design. I wouldn't let that difference stop me from buying an earlier boat if I was at that point. Another differences is in the power of 6-71's either 410 hp, 450 & 485 hp depending on year...I like the 485's...

    I have a 43' Series II and I love it. I have 6-71's 450 HP.

I'd step up to a 50' Post with Man's. It's a far superior boat in every aspect and a heck of a lot more room.

Would you prefer Mans over Cats ?

Not too many 50's out there with Cats. Just about all of them have the Mans except for the very early models that came with Detroits.

As a whole no. Very very few 50's built with Cat's. BUT, the MAN's are an excellent fit. 26 knot cruise at 55 gph, they're smooth and quiet and just a good combo.

Great info. Can you give input on the following sea performance between the two hulls?

and that's at 1850-1900 rpms, those figures I posted......1950 will get you 27.5 knots usually with a clean bottom and no dinghy on the bow and 60 gph. The boat I'm familiar with has 5700 hours on the MAN's, he just now had the heads pulled off and valve jobs done on them, but the cylinders all looked good, original engines.

I'm pretty sure this info is buried in some other threads but I'll summarize my memory on the subject... which could be off but.

While slightly improved, it's still a pretty flat hull that remains squirrelly in a following sea. Rudder upgrades if I recall have attempted to address the issue as well and if I recall seemed to have at least as much an impact as series 1 v 2 .. although I think you can only do so much.

General comment - while the ride certainly isn't boring .. I've personally found the following sea horror tales to be a little overblown. (76 42 with originl everything)

Outpost, From your avatar I see no tender on your front deck.
I always felt that the added weight of a tender contributed to the bow steer problem associated with these boats.

    Did you remove it ?

There hasn't been a tender up there certainly for the time I've owned it, and In fact the transom / swim platform have hardware from a previous tender mount system .. someone obviously preferred it back there. perhaps you're on to something.

I don't know what the actual hull differences are between the 46 and 46II.

The rudders are different. There are pictures of the rudders in the Post Forum.

Also, 6-92s with down angle gears are significantly shorter that 671 TIBs with Capitols.
That's a lot more iron further back with 692s.
