My first post as I am a new member and I hope someone can help me or steer me in the right direction.

I noticed the stock wood flooring on my boat starting to deteriorate inside the cabin in what I would consider a fairly severe way and in a short period of time. it has started and is continuing to get substantially worse in the corner near the sliding glass door towards the stern.

My first thought is that maybe it is coming from ocean salt mist while underway. I live in southern CA and often keep the sliding door to the stern open while cruising. Strange thing is, where it started was not near the opening of the door but rather in the corner under a stationary chair. Over a two month period, it has become larger (size of 2 bathroom throw rugs) and is turning black in color. First, it started out looking like someone had taken sandpaper and really gave it a good sanding turning lighter in color, now turning black in some places. One thought I had is maybe it was the generator which is located beneath the wood floor in the engine room. However, I have not used the generator for at least 4 weeks and it is continuing to grow in size.

Has anyone ever heard of wood decaying like this in a fairly new boat while just sitting at the dock with he door closed almost all the time?

    Help?

Damage to finished wood starting out light and turning dark later could be moisture. How bout a photo?

Thank you for the reply I should have included in my original post. This is a picture I took when I first noticed the change. Now after looking at this photo I would say it has grown to the size of one bathroom rug, not 2.

Looks like moisture to me. Did anything other than that chair ever sit there?

That's water damage. You have a water leak somewhere.

I would totally agree with you, however, the inside of the boat never gets wet accept when underway the back transom area gets wet. Even with this moisture on the back, the inside corner underneath the chair is farther away from the moisture and the door yet that is where the damage exists. We have a yacht brokerage company that handles everything from bottom scrubbing to engine maintenance and outside cleaning twice per month. They have reached out to Sea Ray to see if they have any idea but we have not heard back as of yet.

Thank you again for your reply and input :)

Does the boat get rained on? Does it get washed? Something is leaking onto the salon floor, a window, a flybridge drain, a seam, the sliding glass door.

Water from various sources can travel some weird routes and end up in strange places.

All the things mentioned including a cat are possibilities. This has obviously had a lot of water or a very strong liquid. I'd warn this too that since you don't know the cause, it's probably still there. I'd put paper towels down to see if they get moist and when while I'd look for all possibilities. You might get someone with infrared to see what they can detect. Are you the only owner of the boat?

It's most likely leaking behind a wall and getting Underneath the wood floor and wicking it's way out and ruining the wood.

A/C Air Handler nearby? Condensation? build-up?
Do you have the A/C running when are you are away from the boat?

Stock photo I found online. It looks possible a window above or the sliding door is letting water in to that corner. Is there an icemaker just outside the window, adjacent to that corner?

You can now purchase inexpensive FLIR cameras that connect to Iphones and Androids. I would get one of those and start spraying the outside of the boat.

On a 2014 I would think it would be a warranty issue.
