    Living outside of the USA is obviously not for everyone, but here in what we consider the best cruising grounds in the world, life can be easy. I guess the major reason is cost of living, I can't think of another place where I can berth my 21m vessel for under 30usd per month. Departures from our little home port in Bira, South Sulawesi are usually 3-4 week expeditions to distant points like Papua or Komodo and yes we totally avoid Bali, its just to touristic for our taste. Those of us that do need or want to visit the Island of the God's usually prefer to hang at a little island of Lombok called Gilli Nungu where we have a sheltered anchorage and quick acess to high-speed cats running back to Bali 4 times a day.

    While my vessel is not air-conditioned or frankly not a world cruiser, my investment in this life style is under 100,000usd and I am more than comfortable.

    What a great looking boat that "Big Pond" is.. is that picture taken anchored in Captain Harbor, or up the river some ?

    What does she draw and what kind of speeds will she do? :cool:

    Seeing that they normally run with only two engines at a time, I'm not really sure what top speed is.........
    They get around 17kts on two.
    The pic was taken at Dolan's "private show" 4th of July fireworks over in Oyster bay NY. It is a "usual" spot for us on the 4th & the only better fireworks I have EVER seen is the Macys display on the East River.

    OMG! That's hilarious! (well, not really) Guess he didn't have a Voice Alarm system!;)

    There are two ways to turn a sailboat into a submarine... forgetting the bilge plug or... getting hit in the head one too many times by the boom!

    Hats off to your sailors out there. Way too much work to go way too slow! (they'll get the last laugh with gas prices heading for the $3 mark!):(

    Not that I am in agreement, but at the local marina here they are talking about putting in an overhead, horizontal beam spanning the canal at the entrance to the marina. High enough to let the Sportfisherman in but low enough to be a barrier to sailboats. I'm told that the sailboater at the fuel dock spends the entire time bitching about the price of the 15 gallons of diesel fuel he buys while he is filling his water tank, discharging his holding tank, and dumping his solid trash. Then along comes the powerboater who gives the marina employee $20 to hold the nozzle so he can take his party in the restaurant/bar and spend $200.00 while they pump 1,000 gallons of the same priced diesel fuel in his boat. I am told this scenerio is close to 100% accurate. Can anyone verify, refute, or otherwise shed further light on this phenomenon? The marina owner has never lied to me before.

    There is absolutely no connection between having sex and boating. However, there seems to be some corrolation between having a boat and sex.:D

    Oh, and regarding the sex and boating picture....

    The "bird of prey" is about to create a "flock of seagulls"!

    I believe the analogy is CORRECT.... Last summer I ran to Pentwater, Mi. arriving at about 5PM to find the only slip available was the fuel dock. The marina informed me that I would have to wait until 7PM when they closed to tie up. We floated around for awhile and at 6 PM I started heading toward the fuel dock. Knowing that I needed 500 gal and it would take 45 min to put that on that it would be almost 7 pm but as I approached the dock master hailed me to stand back as there was a sailboat that needed to come in and get some fuel and a pump out. It took him 1 hour and he put 11 gals on and a pump out and ******* the whole time..... I got REVENGE in the AM as I was to leave at 8 am when they opened so at 7 am the sailboats were circleing to get fuel and when the help showec up I informed them that I need fuel (aprox 500 gals) we held those sailboats up for an 1hour BOY were they pissed!!!!!!
