My 6LY3A engines start normally, however...the guages do not give any data.
Also, I cannot engage forward or reverse gears.
Pressing any button on the shift mount.....causes a momentary flash, but not a permanent light at the button pressed.

I would be very grateful for any info or thoughts on this subject......beginning to believe fly by wire has more disadvantages than advantages than old fashioned (?) but reiable cables.

I read there is $700 device which supposedly diagnoses problems with these systems, any one know if its worth it?

    Many thanks,

    Norm

Glenndenning has a way to diagnose their controls, go to their website and print it out. But you can press buttons on the control head and it will flash so many times to describe hat error. However, if you're not getting gauges (which should be totally independant of your glenndenning controls), it sounds to me like you have an issue with the ignition switch and/or it's circuit and not the controls themselves.

Thanks for the info Capt J, I apologise for my delay in replying.....been away.....

I have been unable to locate the trouble shooting pages for the Glendinning unit.

At present I have the engines undergoing an overhaul of the exhaust system, they were installed by a well known Yanmar agent in Fort Lauderdale, they left them with water lying in in the mixing elbow.

Fortunately, they, being stainless did not corrode.

When I dismantled the elbow I found they did not have gaskets either.......

Will follow thriugh with your advice when the engines are up and running once more.

    Thanks,

    Norm

See pages 85-97, print them out and bring the pages to the boat and have a pen and paper ready when you go into troubleshooting mode as it does it by the number of flashes and can get confusing if you don't record exactly what flashes come up when you go through the trouble shooting guide.

Had a similar problem onboard I yacht I visited. I did not remedy but was told the cable acutator in the engine room was too far out of sync with the helm control head. It had to be physically pushed into alignment before system would take and function. May not relate to your circumstance since you are also having gauge problems but then again you may be having two distinct issues.
