I would like to connect my autohelm depth transducer to a color sounder display unit to get a bottom/depth picture I have grown used to. Just wondering if anyone has tried this? I'm trying to avoid installing another thru hull. The speed thru water and trip logs that are currently displayed are not essential to me so I am willing to give those up. I believe that the depth transducer operates at 200khz. If someone has successfully done this, which make and model display did you use?

Look around the connector or the transducer looking for a part number tag. Hopefully the original Airmar part number will come available. The Raymarine part number is sometimes back traceable to the Airmar part number. http://airmar.com/xref.html Now you have the real specs for the crystal and color code schematics for the cable.
If your color sounder is still Raymarine, it may plug rite in, if not, get the proper plug connect and pin out for your sounder and re-pin to it.

If your not good at soldering these little connects, A local tech can help you out.

Thanks for your reply rcrapps. I don't have a color sounder yet. My Bidata puts out a numeric depth. I want to hook up the existing transducer to a color sounder. Just wondering if anyone has done this successfully.

Little confused; I just told you how to make the connect successful. I have done it many times or I would not have wasted my time on your thread.

    Yes, I have done this.

I did exactly what rcrapps, described.

Found the airmar part number for my transducer. Cross referenced it to a Raymarine number, confirmed what Raymarine color sounders worked with my transducer. My transducer was a tridata, while the logs were lost, it the color sounder display I bought does recognize the standard STW and temp data and displays also.

Thanks. I will get that number and give Raymarine or dealer a call.
