Hi Anyone have any thought. Concerns. Comments. Snyde remarks in regards to the Carver 564? Im considerring purchase of one with D12's. Thanks
Actually the 564 was a fairly good seller. I think it sold almost as well as the non-cockpit version 506 on which it was based. I think the 564 has a better profile. With the possible exception of the Voyager models, Carvers are not so much a boat as they are a floating RV. I don't mean that as a put down. They must build what Carver owners are looking for because almost all Carver owners I talk to love their boats. Well, used to build anyway.
Like I said ...possible exception. And again, it's hard to find a Carver owner who has a bad thing to say about their boat.
FWIW, I have owned a 506 for the past 4 years and (as you probably expect by now), I love it. I cruise on Lake Ontario, and find it comfotable in 4-6' seas. Don't really care to go out in anything bigger, but if I'm caught in it I think I would feel comfortable. I have Cummins 450 c's though, not Detroit's
I have also owned my 506 for 4 years now. I have my Coast Guard Masters license and have been boating for 30 years in the Great Lakes and Georgian Bay. Owning back from Tobermorry 2 weeks ago I crossed in a constant 6' swell with the occasional 8-10. The boat handles as well as can be expected, despite a "wet" ride. I would have loved to have found a 564 but could not locate a single one when I set out to buy my 506.
I have a 2002 564, soft top, and absolutely love it. It will be hard to find owners as Carver only produced 23 564,s during their production run. My wife and I bought our boat down on Pickwick lake and took it up the rivers to Chicago with three friends. There was more than enough room for everyone with the different area; aft deck; cockpit; flybridge etc. Our boat, which we purchased in 2014 with 250 hours on it, has the Cummins QSM11 535 hp diesels. With these motors you do sacrifice top end, but it cruises nicely at around 18 knots, getting better than 0.7 MPG's.
