MTU Raw water pumps

    Yeah, sounds to me like MTU is using that so they don't have to replace them under warranty. All of the raw water pumps on all of the motors I deal with don't leak oil and don't leak raw water, unless there is a problem with it. Many times if it's starting to leak saltwater it's the bearing in the pump going bad causing it to side load the seal.

    it's my first message on the forum. i have a french guy couach 2200 fly and i live in south of france.
    i had 3 weeks ago the same problem as you with my raw water pumps from my MTU 12V2000M90
    i call mtu... you need to buy new one.. cost 6000 euros !!!!
    I CALL STEIMEL ,they said. we don't sale pumps directly, you need to call mtu...

    i found this after 1 WEEK OF SEARCHING

    very gentle, he found for me all the parts to rebuild my pumps. at a good price. call and say you speak with me (eric eimberk from france), and he will help you to find all you need.

    my pumps arrived today and they are brand new now. cost ... about 1000 euros of parts

    That is interesting. Mine are 2002 1485hp, I wonder if there was a difference in production of the pumps after the buy out of Detroit Diesel. The kits that JMP makes for the 2000 series raw water pump were not correct for my particular pumps. Even though the parts are similar they where not correct.

    I would think they probably use a different pump with the different HP levels. More HP needs more cooling water and a larger pump is my guess.

    RPM diesel in Fort Lauderdale was rebuilding them in house for a while, may still be. I purchased a couple a few years bak with good results.

    I tried them. Same result no seal kits available. Only available as a new pump.

    PM me the e mail addy you used to write to the Germans and I will chase them up. I am looking at a very large order so if they don't reply to me I will take that as a sign they are no good to deal with

    Did you try the guys at the link I posted or just the German one?

    Thanks K1W1, I did contact the the company you linked earlier and they had said they could not help. From there I contacted JMP manufacturing US distributor that sells those kits. They were helpful and got me in contact with a reseller here. It turned out the kits they sell are for a different version of the pump then mine. I'm guessing a more recent production.

    What you have is not a MTU pump. Your pump is generic sea water pump, that can also be found on other manufactures engine brands. I don't know what is the brand of the pump but I will say it is probably a JABSCO Pump if it is this one you don't need to buy a pump you can buy all the spare parts and you can rebuilt it.
    Check the impeller cover if there is a brand or any kind of spec other wise maybe you can post a pic.

    Not a Jabsco pump, thats for sure. Picture was posted early in this post.

    If there is no numbers on the pump, there is a number on the impeller.
    Check your spare impellers or pull one of what you have for that number.
    Depco pump catalogue can back trace the impeller to what it fits with PDF search.

    Or use those mats with the different impellor diagram at the boating stores or in the boating catalogs. Find the manufacturer of the impellor, find the manufacturer of the pump.

    One bug;
    These may still not be the rubber vane impellers. I think one (or more) of the MTU raw pumps was a cast spiral impeller like a centrifugal pump.
    Still, there should be a number on it or any part attached.
    Some where there has to be a lead.

    Steimel advised that the pump is custom made for MTU. Therefore they can’t sell parts or information for this pump.

    Did that early on.
