Does a ship turn off it's transponder once it reaches the ocean? The last few times I checked Tracer was showing off the coast of Nova Scotia and now Rodger is showing it's arrived at it's destination.

No, but the transponders only have a range of so far. Marine traffic sight makes you pay a fee to see the GPS based transmits once out of range of the vhf based transmits.

Palmer Johnson has announced that it will be taking over the Holland Jachtbouw facility in the Netherlands to continue the manufacture of both its carbon and aluminum series of Sportyachts. Holland Jachtbouw's reputation built on excellence and open approach to innovation fits in seamlessly with the requirements Palmer Johnson was looking for in its European move. - See more at: http://robbreport.com/LuxuryNewswir...cturing-base-netherlands#sthash.PTNPg9Aq.dpuf

PJ is good at press and promotion. Now will they actually sell and build any boats.

Hmmm... I thought a contributing factor to their demise was a lack of good communication with the media. They created a lot of buzz with N&L designs, but the marketing arm of the yard was pretty numb. That said, you're often better informed than I am about yards OB, so I can't disagree.

I tried to bring this up a while ago; It it still PJ?
The company is gone. Except for some copy write & name licensing stuff, it can't be the same company.
What's left to be good at a press & promotion release? The Ad Agency???

Designs were all they had to do PR about. You're right that they didn't have good communication but they were regularly touting new designs and concepts. Just not boats very often. As to contributing factor to their demise, no business, plus I'm betting there was some economic benefit to them closing the US entity completely.

Might be, but then again, moving to Western Europe for tax/labor laws/etc kind of benefits, as opposed to moving to China or like that, sounds a bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

They moved to Western Europe because that's where they personally want to be. The right place for what they have in mind. Just have to wait to see if any of that comes to fruition.

I think selling to a largely overseas market with the strong dollar as of late may be some of the reasoning behind moving production overseas.

There is no more Palmer Johnson Yachts. Palmer Johnson Yachts died when Timur moved the name overseas. The workers of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin made Palmer Johnson Yachts what it was. All that "Palmer Johnson Yachts" is good at now is making renderings of yachts, and now tenders, that they can't produce because the leader burned too many bridges for it to succeed in any new build. As for "acquiring" the Holland Jachtbouw facility, I think superimposing the "Palmer Johnson" name on their building, soured the relationship between the two parties. Timur's good at one thing, and that's making enemies amongst the yachting community.

I don't disagree with a word you say. However, seeing you're from Sturgeon Bay, I do have to ask if you had a relationship with PJ and if so what it was.

I did agree. I made that clear. I simply asked about your relationship. You're from Sturgeon Bay and it was obvious you had some relationship that impacted your views. I said clearly that I didn't disagree with you, meaning I did agree. I've expressed my views here and I had no relationship with them.

Did you work for them? Or have a different relationship that shaped your opinion?
