    Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I'm looking to moving up to a 80s Viking 41. Have budgeted 70k to 95k for one. Are there any particular issues that I will need to pay attention to while searching for one apart from the engines? Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

No, they were pretty good boats with very good gelcoat if taken care of. I would definately stay away from GAS ones.

Yes. Most of them came with the 671Tis.

great boats overall, and a lot of value in what you are going to pay for a decent boat on todays market.

a bit slow and thirsty by todays standards.

I saw performance number at cruising are 20-22kts & WOT 28kts with the 671Tis. Is it slow by today's standards??

I think that is plenty fast.

There are a lot of never boats cruising at 25kts and above

A friend had one. Great boats. Make sure the engines are surveyed. If taken care of the 6-71s are bullet-proof but all bets are off if they have been run hard. Parts are becoming scarcer and the real Detroit gurus are retiring.

Parts are getting harder to get? Thought the parts are still easily available. I saw a couple for sale with Cats3208. Wonder how good are those & what performance numbers are they getting with them.

Yes. These motors were everywhere (trucks, buses, boats) but as time goes by the parts are getting harder but not impossible to get. Many are remanufactured.

I would not shy away from the motors. Just know what you are getting into. I would find out what your local Detroit resources are and speak to them.

Been looking around on yacthworld, many 41s around with good updates. Prices range from 65k to 135k for updates ones with majors on engines. Just wonder what is a ballpark price for one. Thanks.

I have a 41 with 671ti's with tower. With a full load we cruise around 20 to 21 knots at 2000 to 2050. I purchased the boat needing some work paid 50k for it with 250 hours since majors has right at 325 now. The pulpit area on front has core damage from improperly sealed windlass. As well a small spot on passenger seat floor plate. We ran the boat a year and then tore it down for engine paint, replacing hoses, painting engine room, interior redo, etc. You get the picture. We liked the boat enough to put money into it. But then I got sick and the work stopped a year and a half ago. Its kind of a mess but if you want to come have a look I am just outside Houston Texas.

Sounds like a boat I am looking for if it has the configuration and the equipment I am seeking. Give me the complete details and let's see where it goes. Cash is no problem and in hand. Guy
