I was reading in ShowBoasts Magazine an article titled "The way I see it" page 21 and it spoke of the Feadship Heritage Fleet an organization of Feadship owners of boats 30 years and older ... does anyone know if there is something like this for Benetti owners?

I was invited on the Adnan Khashoggi Yacht Nabila in Port Hercules in 1983, just after the James Bond movie was made on her. And I had the opportunity to have a close look at her. Bad example! And I do not mean her design.

I give you a second chance, take another Benetti as an example. I am sure, you can do better :).

She was technically launched in 1979 and delivered in 1980 to Mr. Adnan Khashoggi as Nabila (name of his daugther). When he run into finacial trouble, he he paid his depth with her to the Sultan of Brunei in 1988, who consequently sold her to Donald Trump, who renamed her to Trump Princess. When Donald Trump run into financial trouble, he sold her to Prince al-Walid ibn Talal Al Saud in 1991 and he renamed her to her present name Kingdom 5KR. The prince claims to only have paid 19 Mio $ for her! So, in 1983 her name was still Nabila and she was owned by Mr. Khashoggi, who was our host during the visit. A ship with a colorful history and for sure with a colorful ownership. Btw. during that time, I was only a member of my fathers entourage :p.

Above a picture of the Nabila at her younger age. At her launch, she was one of the largest private yachts in the world.

Certainly this yacht that went up in flames today in Italy while on the hard would be considered part of a Heritage fleet. "Hidalgo" is a classic Benetti yacht built back in 1968. No one was injured in the blaze and at this stage the cause of the fire is still unknown. At least the whole vessel did not burn neither did the fire spread to neighbouring yachts on the hard.

That's sad. Hidalgo used to moor next to us in San Remo.

I was on another Benetti 110' Gitana.

Built by Benetti in 1953 as a salvage tug, and afterwards converted.
Eat your heart out, Nordhavn. :D
