    Looks better than new!

Really wish this would happen more often... bring back a classic. There is a lot of enjoyment left in many older boats. Both the fixing and sailing.

Have very much enjoyed this story and the pictures!

One question it appears Feadship put a "new" badge on her... or not?

    Kees..
Reading over this a second or third time... it is impressive... excellent. You have much better thought out your rebuild than many new yachts... actually Feadship today would be hard pressed to better the simple and sensible mechanical configuration you have come up with. It is better!

What is particularly important is you have taken very simple approaches to many issues that effect the livability and operability of a yacht... low tech but beating any high tech solution. Maybe a little high tech or over kill... I might have suggested controllable pitch props... as to personal preference...once you have them hard to go back.

As to the "old" engines... Sir Harry Ricardo once said... in talking about that subject "I miss the kindly simple low pressure steam engines of my youth...". But realistically you are trading the complexity of electronic high pressure direct injection diesel systems for the reliability of the older fully mechanical systems which you can repair with less dependance. The engine speeds are in reality piston speeds and you will find yours about the same as the most modern when operated based on longevity and efficiency. Yes, combustion chambers, engine materials and precision have increased but not really enough to in practicality notice. You give up a little in fuel consumption... but not really on a distance traveled per quantity of fuel basis.

Thinking on it I bet Sultana is a more enjoyable yacht than most any modern yacht you can name... and it is charmingly adorable.

Remind me to hire you next time I build something to consult or manage it!

Wow! I must say she is beautiful and looks fantastic! She looks more like a new build in retro syle than a restoration!

With a sundeck that size would the installation of a hot tub have been problematic or I assume it was left out for personal preferences?

Congratulations Kees47! Beautiful yacht! Very 21st century in every respect! Hope your example is followed more often, using existing boats and making them sustainable, while very modern.

Thanks for the reload... it is a lovely video.

This whole thread has gotten me to thinking back to the 1950-1960's and how Sultana would have been quite a superyacht in her day... and also remembering those times wherein more fun was had with less effort, problem and expense. Remembering lots of good days out with my grandfather at the helm... running the boat without crew... sneaking into a hidden cove for a picnic... or me piloting as dad and him trolled for fish... or putting on a blue blazer and khakis stepping out... with the ladies not complaining of the gangplank... for an evenings port of call in Monte Carlo... with dinner an bar tab of perhaps $300.00... or some little port in Italy with my Italian uncles taking 'everybody out for dinner'... and dad ending up paying for it all.

It seems all a trifle now... but just Maybe... truly I could be more happy with a Sultana and a small sail boat... for day sails... and happiness know best in the good old day relived... in contrast to it all which now makes less and less sense evermore.

Ok... here it is the first charter video... and I am the third view... up early for mass!

Classic yacht Feadship Sultana first charter - YouTube

A'Tregro is a nice restaurant on Cap D'ail... right at the corner of the port and beach meet...

Nice walk down the beach to the sentier du bord de mer... up through the escalier de la gare and on to mom's house... so why eat out when visiting mom!

The 60m space just sold in the port but I think there is still a 30, 40 and 50m still available... all the leases expire in 2027 FYI. There is some surge at times on the larger berths... anchor well!

I really like this classic little feadship.

    Great looking interior.
I would have used wood on the upperdeck railings.
One classic I would really like to own!!
