Confusion about engine specs

    I agree 100% and once I've gathered that information I fully intend to follow the several recommendations I've received similar to yours. My initial inquiry was to see if the engine actually existed. Since I was able to verify the 6-71N @ 310-hp was an engine that came in the 42 SF and I was able to find actual technical data for that engine proving that it existed, I was afraid that there was a misprint in the Powerboat Guide (410 instead of 310) that was simply repeated in the broker's listing. Obviously, I am now much better educated and am confident that the information is at least plausible. I will now follow the advise I have received to verify it. I guess I was just a little taken aback that in this day and age of easy access to information I have been unable to find a single technical source (old shop manual on ebay, exploded engine diagram, current after market manual still in print, technical data sheet posted on some obscure website...anything!) besides a sentence in McKnew & Parker's Powerboat Guide to even verify that this engine was ever produced in this iteration. Thankfully, I was able to find this forum and can rely on the first hand accounts of actual owners.

    Can you keep us informed on that 42' Post with the 410 Hp 6-71 TI motors...? I'm really curious what it looks like in person and if indeed those engines are as advertised. I'm not in the market this year, but starting to do some back ground research on 41' - 46' SF boats. That was one of the best I've seen.

    I'd prefer to stay towards the 41' - 43' range, but have also noticed a 46' Post in Destin with 6V92 engines having under 500 hrs I believe. The boat is a good bit rougher cosmetically and larger, but like the fact it's got 6V92 instead of the 6V71 TIB motors that so many Post have in them. They are nice boats, but wow the manufacturer really put alot of 450 - 485 Hp 671 DD in their boats. You almost never see used ones with over 1,200 hrs in them. That tells you alot.

    That 410 Hp 6-71 Ti with under 400 hrs should be a nice boat for a loooong time if properly cared for.

    Also, You may have noticed the Viking 41' in Knoxville with the 3208 Cats 375 Hp (1,500 Hrs) for $65K. Not a bad boat/motor combo for the price if it's all in good working order.

    I got ahold of Post and they emailed me the information they had from the original build the next day. It was delivered with the 6-71 TI(s) rated at 410 hp. I haven't called Johnson and Towers yet, but still plan to do that. The Broker also emailed some information relating to the overhaul that was completed. Spring has yet to make an appearance here (got 3 inches of snow today) so I haven't been in any hurry. My plan was to gather as much information as I could, then once the weather started to break, make arrangements to go see it and move forward from there depending on how she looked. I wasn't aware of the Viking you mentioned but I will look it up, Thanks for letting me know!

    I'd check very carefully around the front salon windows for leaks from the inside. I removed mine this fall and glassed in the holes. I still have some fairing and painting to do before that job is complete. Check around all the windows carefully for that matter.

    I'd also check for moisture and soft spots around the area of the bow pulpit. Bounce on deck from the top to see if any flex, then go down below and stick your head and arms up into the anchor locker and feel around.
