'84 Ocean Alexander 38' Trawler with leaking water tanks

    Our water tanks are leaking. They are located under the bed. Any suggestions on getting them out to be repaired? Thanks!

    You did not say what material the tanks were made of. But, if they are aluminum take marine-tex and see if you can repair them in place with that. Other then that you will have to remove the bed and replace them, do not repair them. Repaired aluminum tanks never seem to last more then 6 months before leaking again.

    Thank you for your response. They are stainless steel and we are going to try "Microseal" from the Microleak Co.

    You can try that, I have found that Marine-Tex works well with any metal repair like that. However the tanks are over 20 years old, and I would replace them if you do remove them.

    It is normally only a simple flaw in the initial welding, I have had tanks re-welded which has been very effective, but check for corrosion first. As an alternative you could put a flexable tank inside your old one.
