hatteras seemed to manufacture less of the 54 then other models 53,56,58 was there any issues with this model and does anyone have any performance numbers on the 54. Actual numbers fuel burn at different RPM and performance at different RPM ie 1800 RPM 14 knots 35 gallons an hour

I delivered one a few years ago, out of savannah incidentally. Nice boat with great engine room. I forgot the fuel burn on plane but at hull speed, 9.3kts, th 8v92s burned around 11gph. Like most of these boats it was no speed demon but woudl get on plane and cruise around 18 kts if I rememember correctly.

I like the unusual galley layout with the door to the pilot house in th middle, it is more open then th other hatts with better visibilty aft.

Two things I really don't like... The whitewash wood finish which in my opinion looks like cheap Office Depot furniture compared to the more traditional veneers. And most importantly the lack of an aft deck with a narrow balcony instead. Sure you get a huge saloon but th aft deck is where most people spend the most time on a boat

But if you want to spend most of your time inside, then it s a great boat.

Pascal is describing the ED model. I think the op is talking about the classic 54 which still has 8V92's but split engine rooms and galley down. Most classics had teak interior. 40 gph at 15 knots. 18 gph at 10 knots. WOT is around 17.5 and they like deep water. Built like tanks. Don't have to worry about fuel tanks failing.
Rock stars, stabilized and updated sell for $225K

+1 on what Riverdance said. There was a recent "lightening strike" sale of a 1987 model, reportedly a "10" in Annapolis which brought in the low $300's. The 54 hull was later extended to 60. It is my understanding that they performed better with the extended waterline length.

"The 54 hull was later extended to 60..."

Not by Hatteras. That hull was never used for any other models.

I stand corrected. The 60 was 10" wider in beam that the 54.

I wish Hatteras still had some of the smaller models. I know many owners very happy with older 53, 54, and 56's. A lot of people who would choose those over say an equivalent length Grand Banks.

Rock Star meaning a highly well cared for and updated boat. The market values have firmed up this year with more shoppers and fewer cruise ready boats. May be hard to duplicate the 2010-2013 sale price going forward.

You have to look at lots of boats. Buy that one that feels right and that you like the best. I'd add the Hatt 52 CPMY (1990 to 1999) to the list. The profile hurts my eyes, but the layout, space and function is amazing. A nice early to mid-90's GM 892 powered 52 should be doable for around $200K. The later Cat powered versions bring premium $$. I'd also add the later series II 58 MY (1985 to 1987) to your search. She is the 18'2" beam with a nice aft deck and essentially the same but larger galley down 3 stateroom floor plan as the 53 or 54 classic.

IMO the best reason to stay with a pre-1985 Hatt 53 is the GM 71 series power as opposed to GM 92 series. Lots of debate about 71's vs. 92's. You can do that research if you're inclined.

I think I may have perhaps met you on Sunday. If so, you're working with a very knowledgeable broker. I'm sure that you'll connect with the right boat.

I do prefer the 71 series. But pre 1987 and you're dealing with a 32 volt yacht instead of a 24 volt, so something to consider as well.

Do not overlook a 58' Bertram MY?
    '84/'85 with teak interior
    stability of a bulldozer
    12V71TI Detroits
King full walk around master bert
Huge air conditioned aft deck with wing doors
Deep V hull built like a tank
Small F/B but who goes up there anyway
Trap door from the galley crawl back to the ER keeps you thin & fit
A bit loud underway but at certain RPM's you can outrun the deep exhaust sound
Meal & Owner Absent lights, standard
    bow thruster
Yes its a 32vt system but isn't more better????
I would never promote a specific boat here just sayin', what if???
