Hello, I have a 32' Carver with twin inboard 350 Mercruisers that is cooled with raw water from the river. The last 2 winters in Cincinnati I left the boat in the water at the marina and winterized the engines with standard propylene glycol RV antifreeze. I just saw a great sale for the RV antifreeze that has ethanol in it and I am wondering if it would be safe to use for the engines? My gut says no....but I thought I would pose the question here since I have learned a wealth of knowledge from YF. Thanks! Bryan
You should be fine on raw water cooled engines but it's only one job that should be followed. How to Winterize a Boat - Winterizing Your Boat Tips - Popular Mechanics
Thanks FISHTIGUA. I wasn't sure if the ethanol would damage the engine in any way. The sale for the ethanol antifreeze is $1 cheaper per gallon. The boat will be in unheated indoor storage and figure -50 anitfreeze will be fine.
