Considering a trade of my 55 hatteras sedan for a 67' hatteras cockpit motor yacht. 4 kids and wife are tired of climbing the ladder and hugging the gunnel rail. Love the performance of my 55 but it doesn't work well with young kids. Does anyone have any experience with the the 67' CMY? I like the full walk-around deck, huge aft-deck, nice cockpit for swimming, fishing and water toys. Same number of cabins(3) as my 55, which seems at least one shy for a boat this length. I am not crazy about the galley down lay-out, but it seems to be spacious. I am concerned about the split engine room and separate generator room. Seems like a lot of places to go to manage the mechanical boat operations. All said it appears to offer a lot of living and entertaining space, upper and lower helms and should be a much safer boat for cruising with another family and kids. Opinions and insight are welcome. willard, i went from a 46 hatt sportfisherman to a 58 hatt yachtfisherman. if you are not offshore fishing on a regular basis then the cpmy will be a better all around boat for cruising with the family and a fishing trip now and then. i like the split engine rooms better than squeezing between motors, and the separate genny room adds to places to store spares and the like. i say go for it if you are not a serious offshore fisherman, you wont be disappointed.
The split engine room is super easy to check things, as the doors are right across the hallway. The downside is it's easier to get smell in the boat, and doing the oil change on the port engine generally requires removing about 30 screws and the access panel to get to the oil filter. The generator room is usually not an issue, does complicate it a little, but adds storage. On another note the 70' MY was a very nice design with the master stateroom off of the salon. Also a full beam engine room with everything in it.
