I'd like to get some feedback from my yachting buddies here at this forum. Years ago, I was asked if I had to be stranded on an Island with only one album, what would it be? I personally have varied tastes when it comes to music. Jazz, Classical, Rock, Steely Dan, Chicago, the list goes on and on. But to narrow it down to one album gave me pause to think. After an hour or so, I came to one conclusion. Jimmy Buffet is a personal friend of mine...and his music is great, Steely Dan is one of the greatest ever. And there are so many jazz greats, I can't even begin to start. I finally settled on Dan Fogelberg's Captured Angel album. (God rest his soul).
I'm fairly certain Carl will delete this post being that it's not directly related to yachting....but I'd be very interested in what gets put on the stereo, when the hook is dropped and the margaritas are flowing. You can tell a lot about people, by what music they listen to. I'm not sure where I fit in to this...I love Mozart, and Sarah Brightman, and all of the above.

I just thought it would be fun to bring up this subject.

Just one, huh. Can't be a compilation that you've put together yourself?

I guess I'd have to go with Dark Side of the Moon, though it was a tough decision between that and Van Morrison's Poetic Champions Compose.

For some folks, a tougher question would be: if you could only take one SONG, what would it be? For me, it's then easier. Stevie Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise.

Why in the world would you post something you're fairly certain the forum owner would delete? Are you just looking to antagonize him or test him? Now, had you just posted in the right section, which is where AMG moved it, there would have been no problem. You've referenced him in several posts.

Also, if you had questions regarding the post, you could have sent a private message to Carl or a moderator.

If you have some problem with Carl, you should work it out in private.

    Too funny.

Did you step on a pop top, blow out a flip flop? :D

Did you shout and no one seems to hear?

Remember, you have crossed many waters to be here,

    on an island by yourself.

That pop top is your liter.

You, blew out your flip flop. ;)

As much as I enjoy Jimmy Buffett, being stranded on an island implies a diet of fish and cocnuts. How many times do you think you could handle "Cheeseburger in Paradise" before you ate your arm off. I'd vote for none at all. Anything else would turn into a total bore within a few days.
Years ago my wife's uncle showed up after a 3 week cross-country drive with no radio and only one tape: "ROXANNE". If he wasn't insane before, he sure was after that trip. Afterwards he'd every once in awhile scream our "ROXANNE!" often at very inappropriate times.:D

I'd choose The Counting Crows, August and Everything after cd..... Although G+R Use your illusion 1+2 would be close as would Alice+ Chains greatest hits

On my boat we listen mainly to USB sticks that I assemble during the cold winter months.

Right now I think thee are probably 20 sticks, with no identifying label.

The music ranges from early recordings of Count Basie, The Andrew Sisters, Swing....... all the way up to about the turn of the century when music began to die.

The beautiful thing about the sticks is being able to have the songs play randomly.

The only time the music style varies is when one or all of our children come aboard.

No olderboater, just wasn't sure which section to post this thread...I have no problem with Carl, as a matter of fact he's had my back on a few occasions already. And knowing his qualifications, I'm headed over to Jet Forums to pose a question to him, which I know he'll have the answer to!

    Hi,

Stranded on an island, one album or one song...

Depends definetely on the location of the island.

If it was situated, say, 78 metres or yards from the coast, and the coast-dwellers played their music unreasonably loud, I'd choose something they vehemently hate - to force them lower the volume of their blasting, in an ill-neighboureal duel of loudspeakers.

But should the island be in the middle of the ocean - and deserted - yet supplied with electricity or a gramophone - I'd choose something by J.S. Bach.

Probably his organ works or canons, as, when the ear would get temporarily tired of it, the brain would endlessly enjoy discovering yet new layers in the math beauty of it.

And no, I am not a "math nerd"; Bach just "feels right and ingenious in construction". (Fwiw, I sucked in math in school. But certainly that oughtn't deprive me the right to enjoy the beauty of it, when I can.) Also, to me, Mozart - though apparently "properly and beautifully constructed" feels like eating all by myself a full family pack of marshmallows dipped in honey and then sprinkled white with sugar - while having no access to drink any other than a king-sized bottle of maple syrup. (Though Requiem and a few other pieces do make a strong and soul shaking exception.)

Some oriental music, due to its subtlety of sorts, and variation, could be another choice. Something more contemporary in that genre, like Burhan Öcal and the Trakian all stars.

However, if I'd have to choose between having music or having a pair of toenail clippers on a deserted island, I'd go for the clipper thingies. Hate the idea of trying to "sandpaper" my toenails shorter with a lump of granite, size of a llama's skull.

(Plus, mentioning clippers as a source of happiness makes this a yachting/sailing related entry. Just mentioning an island is merely bringing up a geography thing, innit..)

Fleetwood Mac Tusk is a strong contender for me.
Although I am not a USC marching band fan:rolleyes:. I may have to re-think this.

Taylor Swifts cover of "Rooster" by Alice in Chains. Still holding out hope!

My suggestion would be, try something different like The B Foundation, Surf/Rock/Reggae...
